A £35m dream deal for Liverpool to consider?

IscoWhilst Brendan Rodgers has inherited Kenny Dalglish’s reputation for signing young British players, he seems more invested in signing young players with big futures, regardless of nationality.

Yes he signed Joe Allen, but he also signed Philippe Coutinho. This is because he saw a spark in both of them and wanted to give them a chance at Liverpool. It’s too early to judge, but Coutinho has certainly settled in quicker, despite arriving later. This should give Rodgers the confidence to keep casting his net upon foriegn shores.

After all, we’re all well aware that British players are mostly overvalued. Whilst it’s still possible to pluck up a player like Daniel Sturridge for a reasonable price, these deals are becoming increasingly difficult to pull off.

That’s not to say that non-British players don’t earn inflated price-tags. Take a look at Mario Gotze’s big-money move to Bayern Munich. Look also at Isco, Malaga’s young Spaniard, who has already earned a £35m price-tag. (Source: SportsNewsIreland).

That’s a lot of money of money for a 21-year-old. But he’s earned this price-tag for a reason. Players like Gotze, Isco and heck, I’ll throw Jack Wilshere in there too, are set to play a massive role in the footballing future. These three could go on to become the three best central midfielders in the world.

So, it’s a little exciting to see Liverpool get linked to Isco, even as I realise that Liverpool just don’t have the money to make a deal happen. The aforementioned source even note that Liverpool ‘are at risk of being out-muscled financially by PSG’.

After years of reckless spending, most clubs could financially bully Liverpool. Brendan Rodgers just doesn’t have a lot of money to play with.

But Isco would be a good fit for the Reds. The talented midfielder doesn’t share Steven Gerrard’s competitive edge, but he does have Stevie’s incredible range of passing. The all-action Spaniard, is graced with remarkable technical ability and always seems to manage to find time and space on the ball. At just 21-years-old, he’s got bags of potential. There’s no telling just how good he’ll end up.

It’s an impossible deal, but that doesn’t make it any more appealing. Liverpool fans, do you still believe?

What’s your take? Could Liverpool pull off an audacious deal for this sensational Spaniard?

This is cloud cuckoo land so why bother discussing it? Discuss the potential purchases we might make for sure but £35m on one player is simply not going to happen. We have done that once and got badly burnt. Even with the sale of Carroll (£16m tops), Skrtel (£6m) and possibly Coates (£3m) and the quoted extra money of £20m that only gives us a total purse of £45m. Out of that we have got to buy a replacement for Carra and another CD plus a right-sided midfielder as an absolute minimum. Even Stevie is saying how we need one more good goalscorer.

Spend 80% of our entire budget on one young player who isn’t even tested in the EPL? Not a chance so forget it.
