The Carroll conundrum: What Next for the Big Man?

Andy Carroll faces a problem in the summer, the £35 million striker returns to Liverpool from his season long loan at West Ham United. So what are his options?

Carroll - Liverpool1. Stay at Liverpool

The England international could stay at Anfield. But manager Brendan Rodgers isn’t his number one fan as he wouldn’t fit into his system and was the one that decided he should spend the season at The Hammers. However, with a short supply of strikers, Rodgers may be tempted to keep the 6 foot 3 inch centre forward. As a Liverpool fan, I would be happy to see him stay and perhaps play as a centre forward in a 4-3-3 between Suarez and Downing.

Carroll - West Ham2. Return to West Ham

Carroll could of course return to where he played on loan. Allardyce is a fan of the Geordie man and with West Ham assured of Premier League football next season, Carroll may be tempted by a move to London. He has been in pretty good form this season, notching 6 goals in 18 appearances. However will West Ham be able to meet Liverpool’s asking price, rumoured to be £20 million. West Ham are only willing to pay half that.

Carroll - Newcastle3. Return to Newcastle

A return to the North East appears to be Carroll’s destination of choice. Carroll started his career on Tyneside and played for Newcastle for 6 years scoring 31 goals in 80 appearances. He would fit straight back into the Newcastle team, either as a back up or replacement for Papiss Demba Cissé or as a strike partner for the Senegalese forward. The Magpies could probably pay the asking price, although it has been rumoured that Hatem Ben Arfa could go the other way as part of the deal.

Carroll - Spurs4. Join Tottenham Hotspur

A new contender for Carroll’s signature has entered the ring. Spurs are already well short of strikers and with Adebayor’s wavering commitment and form, Carroll could be the perfect man for the London club. Tottenham are likely to be able to pay the full price and the chance of European football could tempt the England international.

Another compelling transfer saga.

So, what’s your take on this? Where will Andy Carroll end up for the 2013/14 season?

If he is wanted at LFC he will go back but he is not willing to be a bench warmer. I am a WHU fan and woukld love AC to sign for good. He is like a throwback forward who fights for every ball and he fits into the Alladyce model god knows we need a striker. He has been good for us this season. Joining the spuds no chance he need a ground with atmoshrere not silence..
