Portsmouth FansThe horror story that is Portsmouth Football is coming to an end. The final chapter that earmarks a new beginning and a final release from the stranglehold that has pushed Portsmouth Football Club into League 1. Even Stephen King could not have written this story; there has been nothing positive about the decline of this brilliant and traditional football club that has been torn apart and ended up in £62million pounds of debt.

Think of the poor supporters that have been through hell and are still awaiting the most important court date of Portsmouth Football Club’s history. The 10th and 11th April, Portsmouth will head to the high court to face Portpin, the company that has the stronghold over Fratton Park and are preventing the Portsmouth Supporters Trust from their imminent takeover.

The Portsmouth Supporters Trust have exchanged contracts with the club’s administrators and are within touching distance of owning their beloved club. If the Pompey Supporters Trust are successful in the high court on Wednesday then Fratton Park will be bought for £3million – and not the preposterous £16m that Portpin want. The decision hinges on whether the judge agrees that Fratton Park, at the market-rate, is worth £3million.

Could a fan owned club can get Portsmouth back up the leagues?

When the Supporters Trust buy the football club, there is no doubt that this tawdry, messy and horrific affair can finally come to an end and the idea of a fan owned club is really what the Supporters want. A community effort, coming together to achieve the same objective: to save Portsmouth Football Club from extinction.

The club celebrated their illustrious 115-year birthday last Friday and all the fans want to be able to do is to continue to say ‘Happy Birthday’ to the club they have an affinity for. 115 years of history cannot just be evaporated, and, whilst the ownership tale has been arduous, prolonged and difficult, there is nothing more exciting than Portsmouth Football Club returning to the fans.

We have already seen a tremendous effort by the supporters, the community and the council to keep a club stoked in tradition alive and kicking for future generations to love and cherish. Lets not forget: football without fans is nothing.

If it wasn’t for the supporters keeping the club afloat, there would be no Portsmouth Football Club. League 2 beckons for Pompey, but what happens in court on Wednesday will be far important than another consecutive relegation. Pompey needs love and attention and there is no better doctor to prescribe the medication than the supporters.
