Lisandro LopezNow that Champions League football is afforded such financial significance, for both clubs and players alike, the transfer market has turned all topsy-turvy.

We now have notions like transfer ‘A-lists’ and transfer ‘B-lists’ flying around, concepts that didn’t really exist until Champions League football became such an important part of the game.

Players that belong to the ‘A-list’ are those that are only realistic targets if the club can offer them Champions League football next season. These are footballers who aren’t willing to join clubs who aren’t competing in Europe.

‘B-listers’, on the other hand, are players who would likely accept a move, regardless of the club’s current status. This may be because they’re looking for a bigger pay-check, or to climb a few rungs up their career ladder.

Tottenham are currently in a position where Champions League football is far from assured. They’re currently battling it out with Arsenal and Chelsea for third and fourth place. As such, when Andre Villas-Boas is drawing up a list of potential summer signings, I’m sure he’ll sprinkle in a few ‘B-listers’ amongst the ‘A-listers’, just in case.

Lisandro Lopez, Lyon’s ace striker may not be the most compelling option available to Tottenham this summer. But he is a realistic target, regardless of Spur’s position in Europe. Besides, he has the ability to make an impact at White Hart Lane regardless of his price-tag.

The Metro claim that Andre Villas-Boas is a long-term fan of Lisandro and may be willing to meet Lyon’s price of £5m. This isn’t a bad price for a player who has scored 11 goals in 29 games this season. His price-tag may have dropped thanks to a number of rows with his current manager, Remi Garde.

Lopez has already spoken of his situation at Lyon and seems to be looking for a way out: ‘I don’t think it is possible for me to continue here. Before the end of the season I’m going to meet with the president and the coach and we’ll see.’

This issue, combined with his age (he’s now 30-years-old) may have led to his low price-tag. But he’s still a genuine talent, with  enough about him to leave his mark on the Premier League.

I can only hope that if this deal is made, it’s not the only forward that is brought to Tottenham this summer. Spurs need some serious reinforcements in this area.

What’s your take? Could Lisandro Lopez fire Tottenham to success?

We should get this guy now just in case Levy get in anymore mexican stand offs during the summer and we end up with no one.
He’s quite good a bit better then dempsey technique wise dont know if he has the knack for getting important tap ins like Deuce though.

Only one player for me,stop spending good money on older strikers and hope they are going to continue scoring, Leandro is young and ideal for a fairly young Spurs side…..get him at any cost. Hopefully Sandro was sent home early to talk some sense into his head. Then i will believe Spurs can compete in the Champions League.
