Rademel Falcao-AtleticoI’ve been told over and over again, that the key to getting the balance right in a team, is to get your defense right and you can build a solid foundation from there. But is this really the case? Maybe not: look how Barca do it, Pique and Puyol have been absolutely useless this year, having shipped bags of goals, conceding 8 in their last 5 games, and are 13 points clear at the top.

United have also been heavily criticised for their poor defensive record, but they are 12 points clear at the top of the Premier League. The previous statement is surely wrong then, no? If you score more than you concede you will win, obviously. So, this is where I am scrapping the defense comes first attitude. Strikers then, is what Arsenal need…

I have scoured the internet to compile a list of people who have been linked to Arsenal. Some are obviously more likely to be tempted by arsenal than others, but with money coming Arsenal’s way from sponsorship and profits, I think absolutely anything is possible.

1. Radamel Falcao (est. £40-80m)

In the FIFA team of the year, in the centre forward role, a truly quality player who has a knack for scoring goals with 21 already this season in La Liga. But, very unlikely considering Arsene’s money spending record – The Metro claim he could cost £80m!

2. David Villa (est. £10-15m)

More likely than Falcao, this ex-Valencia hitman has scored the most goals for the Spanish National team. Now a Barcelona excess, could leave for just 15m in the summer. (Source: The Express).

3. Adrian Lopez (£5-10m)

Adrian Lopez has been looking useless this season, sitting on the bench for most of the season with Costa’s run in form. Never hit the heights of last season, could go very cheap. (Source: The Independent)

4. Stefan Jovetic (est. £35m)

Been leading Fiorentina well this season putting in the goals, but will apparently cost about £35m. Not worth it for me. Simple. (Source: The IBT)

5. Carlos Vela (£4-6m)

Arsenal still have a buy back clause of about £4m from Sociedad, with his form this season, maybe its wise to try him again. Those who remember his time at Arsenal, however, may be keen for the club to steer clear. (Source: CaughtOffside)

6. Eden Dzeko (£16-20m)

Been unhappy at City with lack of starting time, could go for a decent price and Arsenal should be glad to have him! (Dzeko is a long-term Arsenal target. Source: The Daily Mail).

7. Greizmann (£2-8m)

Antoine Griezmann has been looking very impressive at Real Sociedad, youngster with bags of talent, go for it. (Source: The Daily Mail).

Of these players, Falcao is probably the most appealing and Torres (funnily enough) the least appealing. Maybe Arsene Wenger will meet his fans in the middle and go for Edin Dzeko?

What’s your take, which striker(s) should Arsenal sign this summer?

Berbatov, Suarez, or michu would be money. Then get sanogo on the free and keep podolski and buy victor wanyama and one center back and win the title
