Can Arsenal afford to break the bank for this £35m talent?

|

Stevan JoveticArsenal have stuck so rigidly to their wage structure it’s hard to imagine them breaking it to attract a new player.

It goes without saying, that it’ll take a true talent to persuade Arsene Wenger to discard his old ways and start splashing the cash.

But if Arsenal are to stop their slump and start climbing back up the table, this may well become a necessity. Quality doesn’t come cheap and it also tends to demand a rather large pay-check.

Besides, having Theo Walcott as your club’s highest earner is a travesty that must surely be rectified. The English winger has come on leaps and bounds this season, but surely Arsenal can do better?

They’re currently giving Theo £100k-a-week, but The Metro states that they’re willing to offer top quality new recruits up to £150k-a-week to persuade them to move to the Emirates.

This, combined with the £70m Arsenal are believed to have to spend on transfers in the summer, suggests that the Gunners are ready to get serious in the market. So who could they spend all this cash on?

The Metro claims that the Gunners’ main transfer target is Stevan Jovetic, a £35m Serie A star who has been making some serious waves at Fiorentina. He tends to play behind the main striker, but his tricky feet and direct running often take him into goal-scoring situations. This explains why he already has 11 goals in 20 games this season.

He’s also an intelligent player, who uses spaces well and can put the ball into dangerous areas. There’s a reason why he’s earned his seemingly extortionate price tag.

His current evaluation is £20m higher than Arsenal’s current transfer record. But Arsene Wenger has been saving his pennies for a long time now and it’s about time he went ‘all in’ on a player of Jovetic’s quality.

There’s no telling what a marquee signing of this nature could do for Arsenal. It could restore the faith of the fans. It could provide further motivation for the players. It could make the coaching staff believe again.

Most of all, however, it will help to make Arsenal a genuine threat upfront once more. The cumbersome Olivier Giroud just isn’t good enough to lead the line alone. Stevan Jovetic, on the other hand, has all the quality necessary.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal seal the £35m deal?

Is the comedy hour ? Firstly can you see this player coming to a club as unambitious as Arsenal. Secondly can you see Wenger and the profit obsessed board sanctioning a £35 million bid for any player, thirdly what makes anyone think that we have this money to spend on a player and lastly judging from our performance yesterday we need defenders who can defend not a striker who might or might not settle to the English game. Garbage journalism if ever I saw it

  • Jez says:

They have negations with Falcao so forget Jovetic.
