Why Arsenal should stump up the cash for this £35m powerhouse:

|

Burak YilmazIf you’ve been paying any kind of attention to the Champions League this season, you’ll have heard of Galatasaray’s super striker, Burak Yilmaz.

Beyond his exploits in Europe, however, I wouldn’t be surprised if you hadn’t heard much about Yilmaz up until this point. Yet the 27-year-old has been kicking around in the Turkish League for a while now, including a fantastic stay at Trabzonspor, where he scored 58 goals in 93 games (!).

He moved to Galatasaray last summer, for just 5m euros and has continued his fantastic scoring form, scoring 22 in 29 games, including 8 in the Champions League (as many as admiration-magnet, Cristiano Ronaldo).

The reason I’m talking about Yilmaz? He’s a player who has been strongly linked to Arsenal (as in this one source: The Express). Unfortunately, Galatasaray aren’t willing to let him go on the cheap. Their President, has attempted to stave off attention, by saying:

“We have not received any offers for Burak Yilmaz, but, of course, [the speculation] will mount as the end of the season nears closer. Burak is a very valuable star for us. If, however, we are talking about Falcao being worth €55 million [£48m], then my player is €40m [£35m].

That’s a lot of money. Especially for a club like Arsenal, who aren’t known for splashing the cash, no matter how bad things get. And yet, you get the feeling that Yilmaz would make an excellent addition for the Gunners.

Yilmaz has not just proved himself, he’s proved himself at the top level, repeatedly. There may be some doubters, as he’s not as regular a household name as the likes of Edinson Cavani, or Radamel Falcao, but he’s talented and he’s more of an achievable target for a club like Arsenal.

There’s certainly no doubting that he’d be  a significant step up from the lacklustre Olivier Giroud (who admittedly has an okay goal-scoring record). He’s a real danger man, who can provide an outlet for Arsenal’s talented midfield and significant goal-threat upfront.

Arsenal could use a natural goal-scorer and he certainly checks this box.

So yes, he’d be expensive. A significant investment, but also a good one. In this case, Arsenal may have to spend money to make money.

What’s your take? Can Arsenal be tempted by this Turkish Delight (sorry!).

Scoring 58 goals in the turkish league isn’t the same as scoring the same number in German,Italian or Spanish soccer.Bear in mind in Turkey, his team and a few are other teams perennial winners.
Arsenal will be taking a huge gamble.
