Why Arsenal should look to beat Tottenham to the transfer of this classy young talent:

|

Jordy ClasieWhilst most fans will feel that Arsenal’s failings this season will necessitate some drastic action in the transfer market, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Arsene Wenger take a different tact.

Would it surprise anybody to see the Frenchman snap up a number of top class young talents at decent prices? He has never really been willing to look at the ‘big names’ and prefers to target players who can provide a significant return on investment on the football pitch.

This tact has seen Arsenal football club slump into a decline over the last half decade or so. Given what’s happened, however, Arsene Wenger may feel that it’s time to go back to the drawing board and look at the long-term picture.

I’m sure that Wenger has begun to figure out his ‘exit plan’. Attracting young players who will have a role to play at the club for a long time will surely be a priority.

So when I saw the story in The Metro claiming that both Arsenal and Tottenham are set to battle it out for Dutch starlet Jordy Clasie, I wasn’t exactly surprised. I’m sure he’s one of many young players that Arsenal will be linked to in the run-up to the summer transfer window.

Clasie, a midfielder for Feyenoord has caught the eye this season and looks to be developing into a real star. He has earned comparisons to Barcelona’s pass master, Xavi and is thought to be a future key player for Holland.

Not wanting to be out done by their North London rivals, Tottenham seem to have butted in on Arsenal’s transfer party. Of course, should Spurs nab a top four finish as the expense of the Gunners, they’ll have a bargaining chip (Champions League finish) that Arsene Wenger may find difficult to overcome.

But this is football and money talks. Tottenham have cash to spend, but it’s Arsenal who seem to have been saving up for all of eternity and are more than ready for a splurge. Feyenoord wont want to let go of a player who is a key asset and whose value will continue to multiply over the next few years.

So it’s Arsenal who could hold the power if these negotiations begin to stretch out. Whilst he’s not the marquee name many fans are looking for, he’d be smart addition that would signify a club looking forward.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal look to beat Tottenham to the transfer punch?

Best transfer Arsenal can make is Wenger and Kroenke out now!

The fans have the power to do both but won’t, as such the fans must take responsibility for doing nothing to save the club and force change…
