Does this £30m transfer target show that Spurs are getting serious?

|

soldadoGareth Bale’s astounding, impeccable, superlative winning goal against West Ham during the Monday night fixture took Tottenham up to third place in the Premier League.

And with Andre Villas-Boas in charge, rather than a shaky, distracted Harry Redknapp, you get the feeling that they’re going to be considerably more difficult to dislodge from the top four than they were last season.

As much as neutral fans complain about Tottenham being a one-man team this season, the truth is, this team is going to give the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea a real run for their money. For the first time in a long while, Spurs look like a serious prospect. They look like the real deal.

Of course, Tottenham fans will be hoping that the club backs-up these steps forward with some further investment in the transfer market (and that any purchases this summer aren’t predicated on the sale of Gareth Bale).

According to The Daily Express, that’s exactly what Tottenham are planning to do. This source claims that AVB is weighing up a summer move for Valencia’s free-scoring frontman, Roberto Soldado. As a player with a valuation of around £30m, any genuine Spurs interest should be considered a real sign of intent.

It would be like the club announcing: ‘We’re ready for the big time’.

Soldado, is a fully fledged Spanish international with 17 goals to his name this season. More than this, however, the 27-year-old has been a regular goal-scorer for a number of years now and displays great movement, positional awareness and technical ability on a weekly basis.

The one area where Spurs have struggled this season is upfront. With Emmanuel Adebayor and Jermaine Defoe proving inconsistent, they could use a player of Soldado’s quality to come in and score goals on a regular basis.

Valencia, on the other hand, aren’t in the best position financially and would surely consider selling if a £30m bid came in. At 27-years-old, Soldado is currently enjoying the best years of his career and would make a fantastic addition for which-soever club chooses to go after him.

I can only hope that Spurs are the team to seal the deal. I think he’s a better all-rounder than the likes of Leandro Damiao and more dynamic than fellow Spaniard Alvaro Negredo. Expensive though he might be, he’s the right man for the job.

What’s your take? Can Tottenham afford to be in the chase for Valencia’s Roberto Soldado?

£30m for a 27 year old striker with no sell on potential. Which near enough DOUBLES the Spurs transfer record! Do you know anything about Daniel Levy or Tottenham?
