Liverpool fans would be forgiven for thinking that their side has turned a corner following a fairly decent January transfer window.
The arrivals of Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho at Anfield seemed to signpost a promising future for Liverpool and a strong end to the season for the Reds.
Unfortunately, things haven’t really worked out. Whilst Sturridge has hit the ground running, the team doesn’t really seem to have kicked it up a gear to match the promise he offers. Two wins in the last six for the Reds, makes a mockery of Liverpool fan’s claims that their team is ‘back on form’.
The Reds clearly have some way to go, but their issues may not be solved within the course of this season. The Reds may need to wait until the summer to make one or two further smart additions, to help provide them with the quality necessary to spark them back into life.
Liverpool have been coasting for too long. Brendan Rodgers was brought in to shake things up, but has mostly been doing damage control. He deserves to be given the players necessary to start competing at the top again.
Well, according to Spanish paper, ‘AS’ (via Turkish Football), Liverpool are set to make a €23m bid for Atletico Madrid’s ace midfielder, Arda Turan. The Turkish International is very well thought of throughout La Liga and is renowned for his pace, tricky feet and direct running. He’s been a real nuisance for defenders for the last two-or-three seasons now and is certainly a player who would improve this Liverpool side.
His Agent has made it clear that his client’s future lies away from Madrid: “I can’t say the league or you’ll know exactly who I’m talking about but let’s just put it like this, there are only 5-6 clubs which could afford Arda right now and he’s going to join one of these five clubs.”
Could one of these clubs be Liverpool?
Whether or not the Reds are in the running, I hope Brendan is already drawing up a list of players with this kind of quality. Gifted players like Turan, who have already proved themselves in Europe are exactly what it’ll take to pull the rug out from underneath the Manchester sides.
