The £30m investment that Manchester United can’t afford to miss?

|

IscoIt seems that Malaga’s midfield ace, Isco, has well and truly arrived on the European football scene.

Not so long ago, he was a talented youngster, being banded around Europe’s top clubs. Now, according to the Daily Star, the Spanish starlet has a £30m price-tag.

Most pundits thought he had taken himself off the market by signing a new deal with cash-strapped La Liga side, Malaga. It seems that wasn’t the case. The contract merely allowed the Spanish side to ensure they got a decent price for the youngster when he inevitably moved on. That’s why there’s a £30m release clause written into the deal.

Given the club’s situation, it would be no surprise whatsoever if they milked the player for all he was worth. So yes, whoever is interested in the Spanish starlet is going to have to cough up a significant sum of money.

But the player himself seems ready to move on: “If it’s helping Malaga, I would have no problem in accepting an outcome that was good for both.”

He’s presenting the situation as if he’s ready and willing to ‘take one for the team’ if necessary, but you get the feeling he’d jump at the opportunity to play for a bigger side. And he certainly has the potential to make it at a big club.

The Star claims that Manchester United boss, Sir Alex Ferguson has targeted Isco as a potential replacement for Paul Scholes. Now, this strikes me as a little silly. Isco and Paul Scholes are two players that are world’s apart.

The Ginger Prince mixed his dynamic range of passing and direct running with a competitive edge. He was the kind of player who picked up plenty of cards because he was so willing and ready to get stuck in.

Whilst Isco has an ability to put the ball wherever he likes on the pitch, he’s not exactly a ‘tough tackler’. That’s not to say that the Spaniard wouldn’t be a great addition at Old Trafford. He’s talented enough a player to add an extra edge to an already talented Manchester United midfield.

He’s the kind of player who always seems to find himself in space, can beat his man and spray out passes to all areas of the pitch. He’s your typical all-action midfielder and he has bags of talent. He’d be a worthy investment, even if it takes £30m to bring him to the club.

What’s your take? Should Sir Alex snap up this £30m Spanish superstar?
