The £8m talent who could be the future of Liverpool’s midfield:

|

After his attempts to build a competitive Liverpool team were scuppered in the summer, Brendan Rodgers appears to have been given a second chance this January. Indeed, the club have already backed him with a £12m move for former Chelsea striker, Daniel Sturridge and there have been a number of other players of various statures linked to the club.

In particular, they’ve been linked to Blackpool’s ace midfielder Thomas Ince. Unfortunately, no agreement seems possible between the two sides and the Reds may have to weigh up their options. Indeed, the time may be right for Brendan to begin to look elsewhere.

Earlier this week, The Telegraph linked the Reds to a young Brazilian attacking midfielder who has turned a few heads in his short career. The player in question is Coutinho, who was once considered to be the future of Inter Milan football club.

Unfortunately for Coutinho, his Serie A career has come off the rails somewhat, though he has won a cap for his national team and has ‘inho’ at the end of his name, so must be pretty good.

For those who haven’t heard of him before, he’s your quintessential young Brazilian midfielder: a remarkably gifted young talent with great technique, the ability to use both feet and the confidence to try and take on his man. He’s a great dribbler and has a bag of tricks to help him get out of a tight spot.

This season at Inter, he has only made 11 appearances and at 20-years-old, may well be looking to play football on a regular basis.

And what better place to nurture this unique talent than Anfield? Brendan Rodgers has proven himself to be rather good at developing young players and there’s certainly room for him in what is rather a thin squad.

According to The Telegraph, Liverpool have already tabled an £8m bid for the young Brazilian and this seems to be a fair price, for a player of his ability and potential. He’s not on the same level as Neymar, Lucas Moura or even Chelsea’s Oscar. But he’s a fine young player who may blossom into a world-class talent.

And isn’t that the kind of signing that Liverpool need to make right now? Somebody with a potentially huge re-sale value?

If there’s any truth to this rumour, I’d say the Reds are moving in the right direction.

What’s your take? Should Liverpool be in the market for Philippe Coutinho?

More creativity is needed in the midfield. If he could bring that to Liverpool, we should try to bring him in.

    Ya, sigm him.

Sounds like he could be a good signing, but I haven’t seen him play.

I’m not too sure why we are after players for their resell value. If he’s successful, why would we sell him? Sound like we’re still lacking ambition of FSG are just out to make cash.
