It must be a pretty great time to be a Manchester United fan. The club is coasting at the top of the Premier League, Robin Van Persie is in incredible form and Wayne Rooney is on his way back from injury.

Whilst Manchester City usurped them last season, United have reasserted themselves this time round. You feel it would take a minor miracle for City to win the League now.

The issue is compounded by the high-quality of players that keeps getting linked to the club. Not only are United finding success this season, it also looks like they have a great platform to build further successes upon.

According to The Express, Manchester United are plotting a move to bring Real Madrid’s ace midfielder, Angel di Maria to Old Trafford. This is news that must inspire genuine excitement within United fans.

After all, Di Maria played a major role in Real Madrid’s title-winning success last season and is known for the excellent service he provides strikers. Indeed, in his first couple of seasons he notched up 36 assists (36!) and 16 goals. He’s clearly talented, knows his team-mates well and knows how to put the ball into dangerous areas.

Unfortunately, as Real Madrid’s form has faultered, he’s found himself increasingly placed on the side line by Jose Mourinho. If he’s to properly re-capture his form he may need to move to new surroundings.

Should Manchester United make a move for Di Maria, you’d have to think it would spell the end of Nani’s United career. The wiley winger has started just 4 Premier League games this season (largely as a result of injury) and there have been plenty of ruminations regarding his future.

The Express even tip Di Maria as a potential replacement for Nani. Whilst I’d be sad to see the Portuguese ace go, I can’t help but feel that Manchester United would be trading up. As soon as Di Maria’s back to his best, he’s sure to take the Premier League by storm.

We’re used to seeing Manchester United stars move to Real Madrid, not vice versa. With Angel Di Maria, however, the time may be right to reverse this trend. He’d cost a pretty penny, but if Sir Alex can afford it, he’d be right to splash the cash.

What’s your take? Would Angel Di Maria be a smart addition at Old Trafford?
