TWO signings for Tottenham to mull over in the final days of the transfer window:

|

Alvaro-Negredo~23Tottenham seem to have exerted a lot of time this January trying to tie up the deal for Schalke 04’s ace midfielder, Lewis Holtby.

I don’t doubt that the young German’s a good player, I’m just surprised at Spur’s priorities. After all, everybody who’s anybody seems to realize that Andre Villas-Boas is in desperate need of a new centre-forward.

Whilst Jermaine Defoe has caught the eye this season, Emmanuel Adebayor has struggled and goals have not come naturally for him. One option would be to play Clint Dempsey higher up the pitch, but a better option would be to sign an out-and-out striker.

Rival clubs like Arsenal, Liverpool and Everton will look at this Spurs side and feel that they have the better options upfront and that this will give them the impetus in the fight for fourth place.

On the other hand, a new Spurs striker may well provide the club with the confidence and quality necessary to steer the course and secure Champions League football. I can bet that there will be a large number of Tottenham fan’s crossing their fingers at this very moment – hoping that their club pulls off a deal for a new forward before the January transfer window slams shut this Thursday.

Standard writer, Tom Collomosse notes that there are four strikers likely to change clubs this week: Gary Hooper, Danny Graham, Kenwyne Jones and Alvaro Negredo. Whilst Graham and Jones wouldn’t exactly make for exciting additions, Collomose does single out Hooper and Negredo as potentially good additions for Tottenham.

Hooper’s goal-scoring record is absolutely fantastic in the Scottish Premier League and the English forward must be desperate for a shot in the EPL. Negredo on the other hand, is a capped Spanish forward who seems to have outgrown Sevilla and is surely destined for a bigger club.

Of the two, I’d favour Negredo, as the Spaniard has a little more pedigree and has a build and attitude perfectly suited to the Premier League. He’d also provide a nice counter-balance to Jermaine Defoe. Truthfully though, both players would fit in nicely in this Tottenham side and both could provide goals.

Andre Villas-Boas has settled in nicely as Tottenham boss, but has some work to do if he’s to really win over the fans. That task would surely necessitate securing Champions League football next season and that task would surely involve a new striker. Let’s hope that a late deal can be finalized for one of these players.

What’s your take? Would Alvaro Negredo or Gary Hooper provide a solution to Tottenham’s striking dilemma?

I am very surprised,no mention of Leandro.Just hope Spurs do not buy for the sake of buying a striker. They need a class act.

Never mind the above. Break the bank and get Damiao and enjoy success and CL football for the next few seasons. Those who think that Spurs don’t need another striker are obviously watching some other team play. Few teams in the EPL create more chances than Spurs each week but plenty score more goals pro rata. We’ve already seen that the players we’ve currently got can’t score enough goals. Fix the situation properly now and then sit back and relax as we move forward with real purpose and get results.

We have a class striker – he’s just been played out of position. You can see from the African Cup of Nations what a class act he is. Hopefully he will score more goals for Togo and come back with his confidence back. He needs to lead the line as he is perfect for AVB’s formation. Good luck tonight Togo – our future rests on you!

Damiao is too complex to pull off in 36hrs. Negredo has a Copa Del Rey Semi Final Thursday night so won’t be coming for a medical so NO deal either. Others we have been linked with,(Hooper,Son etc) NOT good enough so we will have to soldier on with what we have.

Pull your finger out Mr Levy a decent signing up top now, may well give its reward at the end of the season when the signing fee could be wiped off if CL qualification is attained. I’d go with Negredo NOW get the deal done, apparently a fee as little as £10m could get it done a tiny fee for a Spanish international.just heard about Damiao, again,if he’s available sign them both get rid of Ade and CL qualification looks pretty good to me, COYS…

Abe reminds me of Drogba. He needs to stop playing out wide, and start bullying defenders near to goal. I think all the assiists last year have not helped him find his correct position . He is a player who has the power and ability to be great. Hopefully all the stuff with Togo will not get in the way. As an athlete he is amazing. Defending corners etc. Good. We have bale and lennon playing out wide. Adele simply makes sense.
