Tottenham linked with a move for sensational Spanish striker: can they pull it off?

After an initial, short-lived blip, Andre Villas-Boas now seems to be reveling in his role at Tottenham.

At the time of writing, Tottenham are third in the League, a point ahead of Chelsea and FIVE points ahead of long-term rivals Arsenal.

Whilst it’s too early to start gloating (Spurs fans learned that lesson the hard-way last season) the signs are very good.

This is a Tottenham team that plays football that’s easy on the eye, is defensively strong and score plenty of goals from all over the pitch.

Despite losing Luka Modric and Rafael van der Vaart last summer, this is still a Tottenham side that is bustling with talented players.

But if they are to maintain their grip on a top four finish, Spurs may have to strengthen in the transfer window.

You can bet that both Arsenal and Chelsea will look to bring in new recruits this January, whilst Everton are a side that are proving very difficult to beat (just ask Newcastle).

Tottenham’s key addition may well be another striker. Yes, Jermaine Defoe has chalked up an impressive 10 goals already this season and proven that he’s still a natural goal-scorer, but Emmanuel Adebayor has struggled (and scored only two goals).

But who should AVB bring in to help provide Spurs with more threat upfront?

TalkSPORT have linked Tottenham to Barcelona’s disillusioned striker, David Villa. That’s right – there’s a chance that Spain’s all-time top goal scorer could be on his way to White Hart Lane.

And wouldn’t he make for a wonderful addition? Yes, he’s no spring-chicken, but there’s simply no doubting his ability. His goal-scoring record speaks for itself – he’s one of the best out-and-out finishers in the game and has the movement and nous to take up good positions throughout attacks.

Yes he’s been at the forefront of two of the most creative teams in world football (Spain and Barcelona) but he hasn’t looked out of place in either.

At 31-years-old, he still has two or three more seasons at his best before age becomes an issue. The only drawback for Spurs is the lack of real re-sale value that Villa would offer – but if he could secure Villas-Boas with a fourth place finish, wouldn’t he basically pay for himself?

He won’t come cheap, but I view him as an opportunity for Spurs to prove their ambition.

What’s your take? Should Tottenham be pursuing David Villa?

if spur get this player b4 arsenal then wenger has no business been arsenal caorch anymore.

  • lopez says:

Right now, Spurs are a better destination than Arsenal. Playing better football, ahead in the league, and more potential for the future. Unless he just wants money, Villa would be better off heading to Tottenham than the Gunners.

    • Don says:

Really? And your prognosis is based on what?
Scored less and conceded more than Arsenal.
Out of LC quicker than Arsenal.
      Not in Champions League (again)
and a mighty 2pts ahead despite having your best ever start and Arsenal having their worst ever Prem start!
Oh yeah, and the last two games against Arsenal, conceding 10 goals to them!

Did you little boys learn NOTHING from last season’s humiliation? Don’t count your ‘potential’ chickens, fool!

      • Yid4ever1 says:

        5 points ahead…..
Did you not learn your maths at school

      • Martin says:

Just keep that bus with those red and white ribbons in the garage for another season,Nasri,Clichy,Van Persie, left a losers team and will have all won something while you still wait for that trophy thats not gonna come, watch you all still qualify for the CL every season but still cant win it,Man Utd,Liverpool,Barcelona,Real Madrid,Nottingham Forest have all won it,oh dear no Arsenal,I remember your last final in any competition was it lost to Birmingham in the League Cup.Say no more Arsenal a big club
        yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawn

      • Arch says:

Last time I checked we were 5 pts ahead of u and assuming u some how manage to win ur game in hand against man city then u’ll be 2 pts behind FOOL!

        • Est1882 says:

Their game in hand is actually against the spammers.
If you recall, Wenger couldn’t cope with the schedule over Christmas and got the boxing day game called off. For some reason the Arse were the only London team that couldn’t cope with the tube strike…

      • Jimbob says:

We’re still ahead of you, fool!

  • Eugene Danso says:

Wenger has failed Arsenal n must go now. Korenke, Gazadis n the board must go.

  • hhahaha says:

no one want to join arsenal any more it all about tottenham. First verthonghen then holtby then villa hahahahah

  • borris says:

Daniel Levy is not gonna sign a 31 year old coming back from a bad injury valued over 10mil. end of this so called story.

    • Don says:

No, Levy won’t sign Villa ‘cos Villa would never go to a small club like Tottenham! End of this and your so-called story.

  • Boris says:

^Agreed. He WOULD pay for himself, but another striker, say, Damiao, would pay for himself possibly 20 times over if we keep making the CL with him (with a resale value), whereas with Villa for the next 3 seasons he could do I three more times MAX, paying for himself 5.5 times over ((30/16=5.625)In Millions)).

  • Manabadman says:

Only an idiot would want levy to sign this guy for anything above 8 or 9 million. He’s 31, just come back from a very long injury and has not been in very impressive form when he has played. The £16m price tag is ridiculous, Zlatan Ibrahimovic went for £15m and hes a year younger and twice as good a player!

    • Don says:

if you think Ibrahimovich is a better player than villa than you are more stupid than your average idotic Spurs fan!
Check their goal-scoring records and get back to me, fool!

  • Don says:

Seriously – why would this world class player join a tin-pot club like Tottenham. No BIG player is interested in joining a club that hasnt won a title in over 52 years.

Stick to buying the likes of Dempsey and Adebayoffside.

Deluded little Spuddites thinking they can play with the big boys. Hilarious!

    • mickspur says:

      prick

    • Louis says:

Name arsenal squad how many wolrd class players is there none who wants to join arsenal no one you buy shit young players for a couple of mil arsenwinge wat a bellend waikot I wonna b a stryler plz if u dont let me I wont sign a new contract plz I cant run with a ball and shoot put me right in front of goal and dont worry about loosing any players this season yoov already lost them gutted mait

    • Jimbo says:

Wow, somebody has a real chip on their shoulder…. Chill out Don!
Great player but would rather sign someone younger.

    • Yid4ever1 says:

Deluded has been typical ar5en1L fan !
10 yrs ago we were not deemed your rivals anymore cos you though u were as big as Man U ! Huh …..
Turn the time up 10 yrs now we r looking over our shoulders at you knobs wiv a manger who cannot no longer manage or win things, and a board who think finishing 4th is a big succes… How the once mighty have fallen
      Coys

    • Jimbob says:

Cause everyone is interested in joining arsenal Hahahahahah #patheticfool

    • Arch says:

Oooooo ur hard where’s ur handbag! Ur just bitter because the once mighty arsenal is shadow of if its former self and a feeder club for the 2 top Manchester teams. U should humble urself like ur manager has in his interviews and keep ur trap closed till the end of the season!

    • Patnevin. says:

Being a fan of neither, i’m a Brighton fan, i think i can add a non biased opinion to this. You’re right that Tottenham haven’t won the league in decades but then Arsenal haven’t won anything for just shy of 10 years either. You’re putting down a team that were much better than yours last season. The only reasons you clawed 3rd place was, Spurs threw it away and the West brom goalie did you a favour in the last game. Again this season spurs sit above you and that gap will grow after the next round of Prem games. The silly comments you keep posting just make you look pathetic, btw. Are you around 12 years old? Even then my nephew is more mature at that age.

    • Patnevin. says:

Oh yeah, i forgot. In what way are Arsenal a “big boy” anymore? and what world class players are there at Arsenal? I’d call Vertonghen world class and Bale. The only player close to that at Arsenal is Cazorla. Going on recent history i’d say you’ll lose him within 18 months though. Whereas Tottenham only sell when they want to, on their terms. If i had to say who’s the better option, (now, not bringing up stuff from 10 years ago), i’d have to say Spurs. Even that german U21 cpt thinks so.

  • hoxtonspurs says:

why don’t you stop writing about spurs don and worry about the arse they don’t stop signing superstars i mean who’s charlton selling this week?

  • G says:

    Hopefully it won’t be 5 for 2 long 🙂

  • Dons Dad says:

Don, stop trying to act big and get off the internet, remember we are on dial up and its costing me per min. I have a microwave meal for you to eat tonight. Do hurry because your mum in gagging for a good old jew portion in her!

  • john says:

Oh isn’t it obvious the arse scum are so worried about the rise of the Supers Spurs…COYS

  • defectedmonkey says:

The average Arsenal fan on the high street come and tell me how much they want Wenger out. That’s about the only good thing going for them. To be fair their transfer dealings have been nothing short of a farce. While we’ve gone and poached Vertonghen, Dembele, Lloris and our kids continue to progress at an astonishing rate. There’s clear daylight between the potential of the spurs squad and the mediocrity of Arsenal’s at the moment.

  • Gunner says:

I’m an arsenal fan and totally gutted. Players are choosing spurs over arsenal, top players are being attracted by AVB, Vertonghan, Mountinho, Holtby, Zaha, Damiao, Villa, Sniejder. Spurs are playing better football, the writing is on the wall, Venger must go!

  • notachance says:

Well passed his best. No guarantee he will ever be the same player after his injury. Has never played outside spain so no guarantee he could be successful in the prem. Massive wages. Spurs should pass and let him join the gravy train at the haemorrhoids.
