Time for Arsene Wenger to take this £30m pay-day?

Another weekend and another defeat for this lackluster Arsenal side. But they weren’t only beaten by Chelsea, they were outclassed. Yes, they clawed back some dignity in the second half, but all in all, it was a thoroughly embarrassing showdown.

Of the players at the club, only Jack Wilshere and Thomas Vermaelen look willing to fight and break Arsenal out of their slumber. Others, like Bacary Sagna and Olivier Giroud look content to amble about the pitch, point fingers of blame and then spurn opportunities as they are presented to them.

It doesn’t look like there’s any leadership and Arsenal players just don’t seem to be motivated at the moment. It was soul-destroying to see a clearly disinterested Andrey Arshavin scamper onto the pitch last Sunday, only to have absolutely no influence on the game.

Key squad players like Aaron Ramsey, Tomas Rosicky and Abou Diaby always seem to be injured, the midfield has no balance, the team as a whole never seems to turn up until the second half and the back-four is notoriously shaky. I think it’s fair to say that things are pretty bad.

For this, the finger or blame needs to be pointed at Arsene Wenger. He deserves all the credit going for Arsenal’s successes during his tenure in the Premier League, but should also be held responsible for the club’s failures over the last 6-7 years.

At the moment, Arsenal represent a sinking ship and Arsene seems to be unable to work out how to keep the club afloat. Key players keep jumping ship and Arsenal are plummeting down the Premier League table.

And now, we have heard reports suggesting that Paris St Germain are looking to snap up Arsene Wenger by offering him a contract worth £30m (£10m a year, for three years). The source of these claims is the IB Times and it’s unclear whether there’s any truth to them.

But maybe Arsenal parting terms with their main man is the best thing they can do at the moment. The club has tied their fortunes to the Frenchman, who now looks completely lost. The sooner he washes his hands of this dirty affair, the better for his career and his reputation. To manage at the best club in his native country must have some appeal. He’d have access to a large sum of cash and the chance to be a part of an exciting project.

For Arsenal, it would offer the opportunity to start afresh. To break free of all of Wenger’s trappings, wipe the slate clear and re-build.

Wouldn’t that be a win-win for both parties?

What’s your take? Is it time for Arsenal and Arsene Wenger to part ways?

He may not go. Money wise,he is richer than all fans put together. I suspect his ego is what is driving him. He wants to prove his theory will work. That means the gunners will be further weakened.
