Time for Arsenal to FINALLY strike a deal for this tenacious talent?

We’re already a good way into the January transfer window and I’m sure that most Arsenal fans are positively frothing at the mouth in regards to the possibility of the Gunners finally closing a deal in the transfer market.

Naturally, nothing has happened yet (Arsene likes to wait until other managers get desperate towards the end of the month and attempt to wrap up a bargain) despite the fact that Arsenal are in desperate need of a few quality additions.

With the Gunners struggling to trouble the top four and the squad looking rather thin and tired, surely the most sensible thing Arsene Wenger could have done would be to line up transfer targets in advance of the January window re-opening?

Unfortunately, the old complacency/unwillingness to spend seems to have kicked in and Arsene doesn’t seem in any rush to bring any players in. Strange decision, since his stubbornness in the transfer market has come back to haunt him on numerous occasions over the last 7 years.

One man Arsenal have been linked to for the last six months, is Rennes midfielder, Yann M’Vila. The stocky French midfielder is a dynamic presence in the centre-of-the-park. For me, he’s like a better organized Alex Song. At just 22-years-old, he already seems to have mastered the defensive midfielder position, combining a good reading of the game with excellent tackling ability, aerial dominance and quick, accurate passing.

He’d be a good addition for this Arsenal side, who lack physical presence in their midfield (Santi Cazorla, Jack Wilshere and Mikel Arteta are all under 4 foot tall and weigh the same amount as a 12-year-old boy).

Rennes seem ready to strike a deal. Indeed, given the players reputation as something of a troublemaker, I’m sure they’re desperate to send him packing. The club’s general manager, Pierre Dreossi has told the Press: “It’s possible [he’ll leave] if we get some interesting offers. He wants to leave, but if it doesn’t happen, it will be next summer. It’s no catastrophe. He missed out on a transfer last summer. If there’s an interesting opportunity for everyone, we’ll find a solution.” (Source: The Express).

He needs a strong hand to guide him and craft his development. Wouldn’t Arsene Wenger be perfect in this regard? I’d say it’s about time that the Gunners wrapped up a deal for this particular long-term target. Let’s hope it’s the first of a few deals Wenger strikes this January.

What’s your take? Would Yann M’Vila fit in at Arsenal?

I dont actually know what that wenger is thinking in his mind, i am sick and getting tired of him keep saying we are looking for a special talent when we have somebody like william, M’vila, Baglia and wanted to live their club.how can he be so hard in signing good players for us after having up to 70 million. TOO bad man

Never going to happen. he’s toouch of a trouble maker in the lockerroom and off the field. Wenger won’t go for it.

  • Gerry Lennon says:

I think the ‘dressing room’ influence is a red herring regarding this transfer. Given the likes of Steve Bould, Vermaelin, Mert and Podolski, who are all ‘strong characters’ are also in that dressing room. I see no problem there?
I have long felt it is the Rennes management never being quite satisfied with the best offer they receive, so they try to get a bidding war going. If they have at last agreed a bid that they will accept, then a matching bid may prove enough to swing it. Providing alternatives aren’t more suited in AW’s thinking?.
Remember, Yann M’vila’s form has not been as good this time around, and may take time to adjust to the PL. Arsenal do need someone they can slot in now. On his best form, M’vila could be a bargain if he really wants to be a top professional footballer. But he needs to focus on that and less of the good life that goes with it?

Can somebody tell wenger that he has tarnish his image as one the greatest manager arsenal ever had $ I hope he doesn’t end up on a wrong side.our hope of a top 4 finish this season is getting bleaker by the day and all wenger does is give us flimzzy excuse
