Should Arsenal be in the market for this highly-rated former Tottenham star?

Considering how desperately Tottenham fought to keep hold of Luka Modric last summer (and the summer before), it’s a little amusing to see how he’s struggled playing in La Liga.

Whilst there’s a little element of schadenfreude to these sentiments, I get the feeling that the Croatian playmaker didn’t know how good he had it with Tottenham. Indeed, it seems he was better suited to the Premier League, than the slicker Spanish League, where he has often looked a little below-par.

As the Daily Star note, Luka was recently awarded the dubious honour of being the ‘worst buy of 2012’.

There must be something about having a £33m price-tag and only starting 8 La Liga games this season that gets on Real Madrid fan’s nerves. When players switch Leagues, pundits often give them a six-month bedding in period to allow them to adapt and adjust to their new surroundings.

But it’s been very difficult for Luka, who has to fight off competition from the likes of Mesut Ozil, Angel di Maria and Kaka. It’s little wonder that he has yet to make his mark and it now seems that he may try and seek out football elsewhere.

According to The Star, Arsenal, Spurs and Chelsea are all monitoring the Croatian’s situation at the Bernabeu and are ready to pounce should the opportunity arise.

Wouldn’t it be amusing if Tottenham bought Modric back on the cheap? Unfortunately, I can’t see Real Madrid letting Andre Villas-Boas pull this one off – it’d be too embarrassing for them and they don’t really need the money.

Chelsea certainly have the money to make a move happen, but it’s Arsenal where he’d fit in best.

Whilst the Blues midfield is crammed full of talent, Arsenal seem to be lacking in cutting edge. They need somebody who can link up properly with their strikers, pick apart opposition midfields and make things happen.

At the moment, the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Abou Diaby and Tomas Rosicky are failing to pull their weight. They’ve all had their careers de-railed by injuries and Arsenal have stood by them for long enough. It’s time to sever ties and bring in a player who could actually influence their season.

Striking these three players off the wage bill would clear up plenty of money to put into another transfer. Is it that unrealistic to suggest that Modric would be a good target?

What’s your take? Should Arsenal look to snap up this former Tottenham star?

if he goes there he will be hung after all the crap he gave us and going on strike and then to go to a lesser team ,, brainless

Never gonna happen. Modric left Tottenham because he was impatient for success and didn’t think Spurs were big enough for his gargantuan talent.

While his failure in Madrid will have hurt his ego, he will still be looking for a club with greater prospects of winning big things than Tottenham.

You don’t have to be a Spurs fan, but merely a non-Arsenal fan to acknowledge that Arsenal is not that club.

Im a spurs fan and it was clear to me Modric doesnt have the mentality to succeed at a really big club. It was same with Berbatov – neither of them had that hard nasty ashley-cole attitude needed to succeed. They are more suited to being a big fish in a smaller pond.

He should have stayed at Spurs, I think he realises that now.

I agree Mark, some people try and climb the ladder others kick people off on their way up. I can’t stand bitter, twisted, greedy, selfish, big heads who seem to think they’re the only one’s that count.
