QPR – A Team That Lack Desire, Spirit and Leadership

|

In the summer Tony Fernandes gave Mark Hughes huge sums of cash to splash out on, in return August ended up with no fewer than 12 new faces joining QPR all expecting first team action, now I’m no Maths genius but I know 12 doesn’t go into 11.  When you combine the fact that there were already the likes of Djibril Cissé at the club, things got even harder.

One big double booking at the club was between the sticks, on the first day of the window the England back-up goalie Rob Green signed for the club, only for the Brazil and Inter Milan ‘keeper Julio Cesar to join shortly before deadline day, frictions had already started to build, barely before a ball had been kicked.

Going in to the new year with just 10 points, you can only begin to imagine what the atmosphere around Loftus Road must feel like now.  There appears to be no fight in the players, the only three that look like they can be bothered are Shaun Derry, Jamie Mackie and Green who appears to be itching to get on the pitch, but they are being left out of the side, and we all know why.

Because Mark Hughes spent so much money on the new arrivals they have an automatic place in the team, there is no one who knows that more than the players themselves and as a result they couldn’t care less as to whether they win or not.  It’s a viscous cycle with no apparent end.

But let’s not forget Bobby Zamora, a player with relegation scrap history.  Even Zamora can’t be bothered, in an interview with the Daily Mail he said “I don’t like talking about it. I’m not a massive football fan, really. Quite a lot more players than let on are the same.”  So even Zamora can’t be bothered to enjoy playing football now.  He is currently out injured but let’s not expect miracles from him upon his return if this is how he feels, but what we can expect is his mood and attitude towards the game to spread across the dressing room.

It appears that Redknapp is looking to add to his squad in the current transfer window, but he’ll need a lot more than Joe Cole to turn things around.  He’ll need to drill a new mindset into the players at Loftus Road and show them that the crest on the front of their shirts is more important than the names on the back.  After that he can only hope that he can make history and keep them up, but it’s a tough task at the best of times, let alone with a team who don’t seem to care.

What Do You Think? Do QPR lack the will power to avoid relegation?  OR  Can they stay up?

you’d think beating Chelsea yesterday might be relevant to this article no?

  • Ashdown_Ranger says:

    Nice article Joseph.

Perhaps you didn’t notice the little matter of QPR beating Chelsea at Stamford Bridge yesterday?

Or that Joe Cole’s going to West Ham?

I’d like to suggest a new article called: ‘This is Futbol – a site that lacks insight, originality or knowledge’…

    Thanks for the responses,

Unfortunately this article was written and scheduled well before QPR’s 1-0 win last night.

It’s out of my hands when the article’s go up and as I say, it is unfortunate that the timing is how it is.

I still believe the main points to be relevant though.

    Thanks,

    Joseph

Very poor article. Clearly has no in depth knowledge of QPR. If he had then he would have mentioned Derry and Hill who are both more qualified than Ferdinand.
It is not the lack of an effective captain but poor choice of players by Hughes. The balance of the team has not been right as there are too many footballers who are not as good as they think they are and too few fighters. It is no coincidence that the team plays better with the 5 players who got QPR promoted in the side.

  • AAN says:

Yes they lack fire and desire, because they are having comunication brake down, when they make Park their captain, too bad it was all business to sell Air Asia to the Korian people and now QPR fan swallow the pill of higher ticket and a loosing team

  • Peter says:

Completely irrelevant. We have leaders and they were winning at Stamford Bridge last night. Idiot.

  • Ashdown_Ranger says:

Fair enough on the timing Joseph, it’s FutBol editors who rather stupidly allowed this to be posted a day after one of the most rousing performances for a couple of year – well, since the comeback from 0-2 down to Liverpool before winning 3-2 last year.

That result was the beginning of our fightback an eventual Premier League survival. I think the Chelsea result wil do the same.

No desire, spirit or leadership? I have to disagree with your approach of tarring the whole squad with the same brush.

Step back 6 weeks and you may have had a case. Sure, there are one or two the who are just not interested in the fight for survival, or putting in a shift.

But there are good players there fighting hard every week – not only the old crocks of Derry, Nelsen and Hill – but the likes of Mackie, Diakite, Mbia – and perhaps the biggest surprise of all, former prima donna Adel Taarabt.

And 2,000 QPR fans wh out-sang the Chesea faithful all night.
