Newcastle leading the charge for this £12m forward – should they seal the deal?

|

Wilfried BonyI’m sure that Newcastle fans have very much enjoyed their club’s spending spree. Yes, going all out in the transfer market can create problems (for instance – what if they fail to make the grade and Newcastle get relegated? The club would be in serious trouble financially) the influx of new players is sure to have a positive effect.

Players now not only have to scrap it out for Newcastle’s Premier League survival, but also for their place in the team. There will be increased levels of competition, belief and quality within the squad and that can only be a good thing.

The French revolution may be good enough to save the Magpies from relegation, but will it really help them to push up the Premier League table and build towards some silverware over the next couple of seasons?

I’m not so sure.

Alan Pardew was forced into selling Demba Ba to Chelsea and for all his work in the transfer market, doesn’t seem to have brought in anybody who can fully shoulder Newcastle’s goal-scoring burden. Ba is a 20-30 goals a season striker – is there anybody in this Newcastle squad who can provide this kind of figures?

Perhaps Pardew is simply hoping that the goals will now be spread throughout the team. Or perhaps, Newcastle are bracing themselves for yet another signing.

According to The Telegraph, Newcastle are in the running for £12m Vitesse Arnhem star Wilfried Bony. If a move goes through, he’ll be the second most expensive Wilfried to have swapped clubs this January.

The Ivory Coast star has a real knack for scoring goals. He’s currently the top scorer in the Dutch Eredivisie, having notched 16 goals in 18 games. He’s also agile, intelligent and always manages to take up good positions and work space well. He looks to be a real talent and at just 24-years-old, he’s going to get even better.

He’d make an excellent addition to this Newcastle squad and could provide them with the goals they would have otherwise missed from Ba. With a £12m price-tag, he’d represent a hefty investment for the Magpies.

It would be a decent capper to a rather bonkers transfer window for Alan Pardew. Mike Ashley has trusted him with his money and I believe he should now give him the funds necessary to make this deal happen.

What’s your take? Should Newcastle be in the market for Wilfried Bony?

I’m sorry, ” Ba is a 20-30 goals a season striker”? He has only managed that once in his career, playing in the French 4th division, 22 goals. Don’t just make stuff up.

  • bb says:

Before Ba left Pardew went on record saying we needed an additional striker even if Demba Ba stayed, once he left that meant we needed two one of which is a main striker, we have still not signed that player.

Why is it Mike Ashley’s money? 52,0000 every other week, most season ticket holders, merchandise, player sales, and tv money all combine to make it the clubs money! After stupidly sitting tight on the clubs finances in the summer, his hand was forced this window out of necessity – fear of losing more of his syphon machines money if we go down!! Please don’t make him sound like some sort of sugar daddy by pulling the cash out of his back pocket for pardew to buy a few players…..
