How Arsenal could save £18m and snap up the bargain signing of the January transfer window:

It’s widely agreed that Arsenal need a player who can provide their midfield with a little more steel.

Whilst the likes of Mikel Arteta, Santi Cazorla and Jack Wilshere are the source of a lot of praise around the Emirates, it hasn’t escaped attention that the three midfielders are all rather similar player.

That’s to say, they excel in the technical aspects of their game. They make neat little touches, they knock the ball about nicely, they pass the ball into intelligent areas.

But the truth is, they don’t really ‘dominate’ opposition midfields. They don’t have any major physical presence and they’re still too easy to ‘out-muscle’.

Some of Jack Wilshere’s biggest fans may take umbrage at these claims. Yes, Jack is a tenacious young talent. He’s not scared to put a foot in and he’ll square up to anybody big or small. But he is about 4 ft 10. That’s to say, not the most imposing footballer in the world.

This is an area I hope that Arsene Wenger looks at during the January transfer window. And he could do a lot worse than turning back to the man he was so intrigued by last summer: Yann M’Vila.

According to the Daily Star, Yann M’Vila’s price-tag has dropped by ‘a staggering £18m’ over the last six months.

It’s also claimed that his club side, Rennes, wanted £25m from Arsenal last summer – a sum that the tight-fisted Wenger refused to cough up. Big surprise. Now, however, the tough Frenchman is said to be available for just £7m.

But why is he so cheap? There are a number of reasons: form, fitness and his disciplinary record. Whilst he’s clearly a talented young player, his attitude remains in question. Does he have the application necessary to make it at a club like Arsenal?

Furthermore, his Rennes contract will run down this summer and he’ll be available for a free transfer. It wouldn’t surprise me if the French side opted to cash in now.  The player himself has made his position clear:

“If the club receives a good offer and I like the destination then I will go – there is no doubt about that.”

This is an International footballer with a big future at his feet. He’s available at a price that would make him well worth the risk that may come with his poor disciplinary record. Besides, if anybody can make a player out of the young Frenchman, it’s Arsene Wenger.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal still be in the market for Yann M’Vila?

Sign him Boss, sign him now please.
    WE NEED HIM!
    Think about it,
Vermaelen and Koscielny covered by a guy like him!
What’s even better about this is that he won’t just play his defensive midfielder role like any typical DM, he’s a very good and intelligent passer.
This will grant Wilshere, Cazorla and Arteta more freedom to do what they do best, quick and beautiful passes and move upfront and finish with either pass to our striker or a shot on goal.
8 Millions for a guy like him is like receiving a gift, take it BOSS.
IN YOU WE ALWAYS TRUST, FOR ONCE TRUST US!

You do realise if he comes in either Arteta/Wilshere/Cazorla or Polodski/Giroud/Walcott may be dropped to bench?

Unless Wenger is willing to switch to a 4-4-2 but still it will only save the hassle on forward selections.

I personally don’t want to see Arteta to have a good 1.5 seasons and thts it for him. Moreover, I believe the team needs a bit more unity as something that they need to improve on and with Yann’s poor discipline I am not sure how can he be tammed @@.

        What i have in mind for our midfield is;
        M’vila as DM/CM, Wilshere, Cazorla and Arteta as AM(With free role) and we play two strikers;
Giroud upfront and Walcott behind him.
Walcott can’t play upfront on his own, he doesn’t have that physical presence that’s needed.
By getting him to play behind Giroud, that is, as a second striker, will i believe make him score more goals.
Giroud can hold the ball, we’ve all seen it, and Walcott must only focus on making an intelligent run forward and Giroud play the ball through to him – with his speed and the quality ball Giroud can play through to him, it definitely will end up with a goal or a shot on target atleast.
We’ve all seen the pass Giroud made to Podolski and more recently to Gibbs. Imagine what damage this can do if he pass those types of balls to a speedster like Walcott.
And also, let’s not forget that we have three maestros in midfield, our passes will get back to how it used to be.
But the key to this is signing Yann M’vila.

I fully agree. This is the type of a player we need. It will not make any sense to me to enquire about a certain player when his price is skyhigh, and when its a bargain, it makes you run.
Few Arsenal players who were brought to the club had their own disciplinary problems but with patience, that is not part of them now.
    A typical RvP.
So even Yank M’vila, can be brought up the same way as RVP.
This is a bargain that can for perfectly into our style.

  • triunph says:

Mr Wenger pls der must be a gud signing dis tym if we must survive d season pls help us cos we need somethin 2 show

  • tissiam says:

apparently he was offered to us 2 weeks ago &turned him down because of his disciplinary record!if it is true what a shame&we could live to regret it!!

  • chris says:

I’ve seen many of his games and I must say I am not that convinced. I wish we could get Diaby back! At the beginning of the season when he was starting you could the impact he was having. He got injured, we then went missing in games!!

If he can keep fit, we don’t need anymore midfielders.

    • Tommy says:

U’re d most stupid fan i av ever seen.instead of u 2 cooperate wit other fans to go against arsene wenga stingy act,u ar sayin rubbish.do u think we can win trophies with dis squad.dis is rubbish

      • Langers says:

Not sure how you can call anyone stupid when you talk as if you are from the ‘Ghetto’

        TALK ENGLISH!

Amongst the drivel, I think you said they should join together to go against Arsene Wenger? Hmmm some fan you are! Do you go Emirates often?

    • Gunners4life says:

I’m sorry Chris but you know we can’t rely on Diaby!
      All of us know that.

  • daniel the gooner says:

This is the position we need sorted most! Diaby plays for a month then has 3 out, Songs not been replaced.. we’re only going for ‘top, top signings.. Falaini 22m release clause & I read Moyes likes Rosicy & Arteta’s an old team mate. Mr Wenger, it can’t be that difficult..

  • Gunners4life says:

We definitely need to sign him.
    That’s for sure.
We need to do something to make the BOSS aware of what us, ARSENAL FANS, thinks and wants.
    After all, it’s our TEAM!
    WE LOVE ARSENAL.

  • Jack says:

Wouldn’t touch him with a barge poll. He’s just not arsenal material and we don’t need a troublemaker in the dressing room.

Aside from that, he’s yet to prove himself and the last thing we need is another player with more ego than talent who will be on a massive wage never getting a game, with us unable to unload him.

  • Ayelab says:

Pls wenger he is a NATURAL DM not a convert.save arsenal & d fans i dont want 2 watch my arsenal play EUROPA next season like… Pls pls plssssssssss

  • dev says:

Yann pls dont go to Arsenal you will regress as a player in this club. Find a club with a proper manager and with proper ambition
