Arsenal target asks to leave – is the time right for Wenger to make his move?

Arsenal are clearly desperate for a striker. Anybody who expected Olivier Giroud to adequately replace Robin Van Persie is bonkers. At best, it was a temporary measure to help provide a source of goals whilst Arsene Wenger hunted down a more talented individual.

Unfortunately, Arsene Wenger hasn’t come up with the goods and Olivier Giroud hasn’t been as prolific as many fans would have hoped. That we’re approaching the last week of the January transfer market and Wenger hasn’t made any additions is rather worrying.

The need’s there for everyone to see, so why hasn’t something been done about it?

Interestingly enough, reports emanating from Spain (and picked up by The Independent) suggest that David Villa has told Barcelona that he wishes to leave the club this month.

Since he came back from a long-term injury, he’s struggled to get regular game time at the Nou Camp and his frustration appears to be growing. With the level of talent surrounding Villa at Barca, I’m not surprised he’s considering moving away to help re-build his career.

Should he leave, Arsenal are thought to be interested in acquiring his signature.

Earlier this January, Barca boss Tito Vilanova moved to rule out any potential exit from the club: “David is not going to leave. We are very happy with him.”

Tito is clearly not mincing his words here, but should the reports of Villas’ dissatisfaction be true, he may well have to send him on his way this January. After all, what’s the point of keeping hold of a player who doesn’t want to be there?

If Arsenal still have a chance of snapping up David Villa, they should jump on it. Quality strikers like David Villa are nigh on impossible to find. This is the Spanish International sides’ all-time top scorer we are talking about.

Wherever he has been, he has always been sensational in front of goal. He’s a really mobile player, who takes up smart positions and has the ability to score all kinds of goals. Headers, free-kicks, tap-ins, 30-yarders – you name it, he can do it.

Yes, he’s now 31-years-old, but Arsenal will struggle to find anyone better. He’ll have no re-sale value, but given the high-profile exits that have occurred over recent years, I’ll say that Arsenal can afford to take a knock. Besides, if Villa can secure the Gunners Champions League football, he’ll more or less pay for himself.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal re-ignite their interest in David Villa?

Age is just a number. Manure bought Teddy Sheringham @ 31 yet he was influencial 2 there team & played 5 seasons with them. Arsene must sign him Villa koz he wil really replicate Teddy & do more.

He is a great short-term solution. Lets Bargain Hard bring down the price and tie him 2.5yrs

We don’t have to win all our big matches If we just draw MAN U MAN C ETC…. Remember If we draw big teams twice both teams drop 2 points up & we slow them down.

ALL WE HAVE TO DO IS TO DEFEAT ALL THE OTHER TEAMS WHETHER WE OUTPass THEM OR NOT is irrelevant VILLA CAN POKE IT IN WITH ALMOST ANY PART OF HIS BODY.. GUYS One extra goal = Victory= 3 pts.Imagine we had one extra goal for at least 5 of our past drawn games plus 3 extra pts for holding ManU and twice Chesea plus winning our game in hand we would have 47pts just sevn pts behind United cos they would hve 2 pts less. Wenger would still be talking up his EPL chances

Great and honest article I agree we need a bloke who knows where the net is as i’m really fed up with Giroud missing chances, half chances, and all in sundry, and to be honest i’m not that impressed with Podolski either.

We’re going to have a job gaining 4th this year to enter the champions league so that’s why i’d love Villa to join us to help us reach this type of goal but the question is would he want too when we’re in this position? I think the answers no! and as much as I hate saying this Spurs will be the choice over us regarding quality players on offer now and in the future (Vertongen and Holtby) for a start I could see this coming to pass regarding Spurs as long ago as 3 years warning this could happen and I received nothing but abuse from Arsenal fans along with the usual Arsene we trust. I saw the light and lost mine a few years back as it’s all AW’s and our beloved board’s fault for letting us get into this state for not spending some decent cash on quality rather than so and so’s (can you spot an sos there?)If A.W does bring in quality before the end of the window all will be forgiven providing we reach the 4th spot at the end of the season …….
