The Bundesliga star or the La Liga ace: which striker should Arsenal snap up?

So, I’d say it’s a pretty bad time to be an Arsenal fan. Nowhere else in the footballing landscape can you see the same level of expectation and crushing disappointment (except perhaps, Liverpool).

Defeat to Bradford City is merely the nadir in a series of lows that Arsene Wenger’s side has been serving up to the Arsenal faithful. As the descent grows, the importance of the next transfer window continues to grow and grow.

Arsenal have been linked to all kinds over the last couple of months, but it’s more or less clear now that the most important area they need to focus on is their attacking line-up.

With the likes of Gervinho and Olivier Giroud disappointing on a fairly regular basis, Theo Walcott seemingly on his way out and Lukas Podolski doing his best impression of the invisible man, we can only hope that Wenger and has scouts have spent the last two-or-three months scouring the globe for the best attacking talent.

The Week note that Arsenal have been linked to both Fernando Llorente and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.

I have to say, I think both players would add something to this Arsenal side. There’s a lack of threat upfront at the moment because players like Gervinho don’t know what positions they should be taking up and how to exploit the space in a dangerous manner. Players like Huntelaar are experts at exploiting the space in behind the back four, ghosting in, linking up with the midfield and nabbing goals. Fernando Llorente on the other hand, is the kind of player who can create space using his own brute force.

The article suggests that Llorente is a target, but that according to betting odds, Huntelaar is the more likely addition. Well, here’s a bright idea, Arsene, why not hedge your bets and go for both?

We’ve seen how desperately short of firepower Arsenal are this season. Playing Marouane Chamakh (even in the Capital One cup) is a sign of a club in real turmoil. It’s my feeling that Arsenal need to purchase at least two strikers. If Theo and Arshavin leave this January, they’ll also need to buy a winger.

The one thing that both Huntelaar and Llorente lack is genuine pace, but we’ve seen Gervinho prove to the world that pace isn’t everything. These are two smart players who may just be able to save Arsenal’s season.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal be chasing both Llorente and Huntelaar?

You my lad made my day! Knowing Arsenal, you’re probably right. Everyone’s claiming frustration yet they still buy overated tickets to watch Deja vu lucklustre performances! If all these fans could just unite in a two home game boycott, I bet you my breakfast the board would go back to the drawing table. As it is now, wenger will go in panic mode trying to buy anyone in the january window…remember park and santos?? Everyone’s trying to bolster their squads in january…truthfully speaking how many good players do you think will pass on an opportunity to play for “oil money” and settle for wenger’s rendundant plans??

We need at least 2 strikers. A dm like mvilla and 2 more defenders. Preferably full bk who can play left or right. Huntelaar
is the best option but wenger should take a risk and buy both plus other additions if we have any chance of even scraping 4th

I’d like to see huntelaar, great scoring record, I think giroud and llorente are very similar in styles, I’d be very disappointed to see Walcott out and sterling in tho, because he’s come on the scene and had some good performs EE doesn’t put him in the same class as Walcott, no where near on assists nor goals, be ashame to see out top scorer leave again this season, I don’t know why he isn’t given his chance up front, can finish and pace to burn,

It is clear that something has to change this season.
AFC as a club have become the dire club that it is and everyone else can see the reasons, so i won’t repeat them.
I get no pleasure anymore watching AFC, in fact i can usually see within 15 mins if AFC are going to lose or win.
This club is now in the position to start rebuilding the club, after living on economy for 5-6 seasons, finances are good and if they don’t start to realise this, what has it all been for?
I have always thought they were trying to build a solid financial position, and then start to compete.
Sad thing though, any players that used to clamour to come to AFC are going elsewhere, and who will or can blame them?
If the policy of AFC does not change this season then i can see only second string players and not even them wanting to come to AFC.
Personally i think it is time for AW to move up and deal with money and let us get a proper footballing manager, one who can change a game instantly and replace the one whose idea is to throw the players in at the deep end and say “now sink or swim”. Sometimes, all the time it takes a manager to see things the players cannot see on the field, and direct his players to react to them.
This is the ONE thing that i think has eroded AFC from a brilliant football club to what ever it is now becoming.
Still i watch and hope that things are going to change now.
