The £20m fix to Arsenal’s midfield problems?

Without wanting to sound harsh, Arsenal fans have been putting up with Aaron Ramsey for over a season now. His performances just don’t seem to mirror the trust that has been put in him by Arsene Wenger. He doesn’t look like a player who belongs at a top four club.

Yes, I realize that he had the poor fortune to pick up a career threatening injury at such a young age. It’s a minor miracle that he’s been able to fight back and work his way back into the Arsenal first team. This doesn’t change the fact that he’s never quite looked like the player he was before his injury.

Ryan Shawcross, with one careless act, you may well have drained a talented youngster of all his potential.

When you combine Ramsey’s perennial bad form, with perma-crocks Abou Diaby and Tomas Rosicky, it’s clear that there’s a big void in Arsenal’s midfield.

Whilst the Gunners central midfield basically picks itself (Santi Cazorla, Jack Wilshere, Mikel Arteta), when you attempt to look beyond these three, Arsenal look rather short of options. That’s why Arsenal tend to struggle when they’re forced to rotate their squad and why players like Santi Cazorla tend to look so tired all the time.

They need a break, but players like Aaron Ramsey can’t adequately replace them and the likes of Rosicky and Diaby are never around to do so. Yes, Rosicky is currently regaining his fitness, but surely it’s only a matter of time before injury strikes once more.

So why not clear ranks, get rid of these three (alright, keep Ramsey if you will…) and buy a player who can be relied on? The player I’d like to see in this role at Arsenal is PSV midfielder Kevin Strootman. The Dutch international has enough ability to push the likes of Mikel Arteta for a first team place.

At 22-years-old he’s already thought of as one of the best midfield talents in Europe. This has earned him a deserved £20m price-tag. The Daily Mail claim that Arsenal are interested and should they pull off a deal at this price, they’ll have secured a real bargain.

Whilst many remains fans of the likes of Tomas Rosicky, Abou Diaby and Aaron Ramsey, they strike me as exemplars of everything that’s wrong with this Arsenal side. It’s time to freshen things up. It’s time to bring in some genuine talent.

What’s your take? Would Kevin Strootman be a smart addition for this Arsenal side?

I’d dispose of Diaby without a thought, I can no longer take the sight of Ramsey making the simple look impossible but I would hold on to Rosicky. He is currently the only sign of life in our second string. Who would buy them though, now Mark Hughes has noones money to throw away……?

The player they have really missed and Wenger cannot bring himself to admit it ,is Song ,he was the only midfielder who could tackle yet arsenal saw fit to get rid rather than pay 60k pw (which many players who are not even in the team get )…..but like i said Wenger will not mention this because he would be admitting bad managment on his behalf .NEVER MIND GOONS ,THIS IS ALL GOOD NEWS FOR THE SPURS HAHAHAHA COYS
