Could this Premier League contract-rebel be the solution to Liverpool’s striking problems?

Liverpool’s problems in the striking department have been well documented this season. Brendan Rodgers was rather hung out to dry last summer, when the club’s top brass allowed him to send Andy Carroll out on loan without providing him with the funds to purchase an adequate replacement.

Fans and pundits alike speculated that this would leave Liverpool short upfront. They have been proven to be right.

Thank God then for Liverpool’s Uruguayan wonder, Luiz Suarez. Last season the technically gifted forward looked like he couldn’t hit a barn-door. This season, he’s finally found his feet and has firmly established himself amongst the Premier League’s best. 13 goals (and six assists) in 21 games will attest to this.

His form, however, does not change the fact that the Reds are in desperate need of another striker. Suarez needs some support if Liverpool are to ever consider themselves a competitive force once more. But who can they turn to and will they be able to afford a suitable replacement?

According to the Express, Newcastle forward, Demba Ba, has just rejected a new deal that would see him make £70k-a-week. Had he signed it, he would have become the club’s best-paid player. The fact that he didn’t, seems to suggest his future may lie elsewhere.

The fact that Ba has a release clause of £7m will only help to make him more attractive to clubs like Liverpool (who the Express claim are interested in the Senegalese striker).

Demba Ba is a natural goal-scorer, the likes of which Liverpool have been calling out for all season. Last season he nabbed 16 goals in 36 games (many of which were spent out on the wings) and this term he’s already grabbed 10 goals in 17 games. He’s in fine form and looks to be a real force in front of goal.

It’s rare to find a player of his quality and ability available at this kind of price. I’m not sure why Brendan Rodgers and Liverpool seem to have their heart set on Daniel Sturridge. Demba Ba is just as good as the Chelsea youngster and looks equally keen to secure a move away from his club.

With that in mind, perhaps it’s time for Rodgers to turn his focus away from Sturridge (and his rather extortionate wage demands) and onto Ba. If Liverpool are looking for a top quality striker at a bargain price, they could do a lot worse.

What’s your take? Should Brendan Rodgers be in the market for contract-rebel Demba Ba?
