Brendan Rodgers: The master of self-promotion

Liverpool fans were wary when Brendan Rodgers was appointed Liverpool manager after the sacking of their iconic hero, Kenny Dalglish. There were even cries of “Brendan’s not good enough for our Liverpool”. It was not only disrespectful to Brendan Rodgers but also to Roy Hodgson, the now England manager, who infamously bought Paul Knochesky to Liverpool with him from Fulham. Now, that was disrespectful.

Brendan Rodgers has come into the Liverpool job with one thing most managers lack: a sense of the past. Rodgers has quickly adhered himself to the Liverpool fans by acknowledging the club’s past glorious years of success and wants to use that as a platform for future successes. A clever and wise move as the fans buy into “The Brendan Way” which is supposedly just talented footballers passing the ball about and containing possession until the other team lose their mind and concede a goal. That is “The Brendan Way” in simplistic terms. Some critics out there call Brendan Rodgers’ philosophy on the game as nothing new, which is simply insulting to the man, who was sacked at Reading after replicating what AVB tried to implement at Chelsea, too fast, too soon. “The Brendan Way” is his USP. Most managers need a unique selling point to convince a chairman and owners they are the man for the job. AVB had the sublime season at Porto and won every trophy possible in that season. What has Brendan Rodgers got? “The Brendan Way” of course.

Mangers such as Alan Curbishley, who is still on our screens without a job and won’t belittle himself to the Championship, even though Steve Bruce has at Hull City and is doing a terrific job which has boosted his profile, can’t compete with young managers nowadays. You need a USP. Brendan Rodgers just happened to inherit a Swansea team that played this free-flowing football which brought plaudits and comparisons to Barcelona.  Now instead of crediting the players all the time, how do you as a manager capitalise on that success and make sure the manager gets recognition as well? You say you have always played this football. It didn’t work at Reading but it will always work. The attention now turns to Brendan Rodgers.

You cannot buy “The Brendan Way” from any shops or retailers. It is however tailor made for Brendan Rodgers. When Liverpool win matches, a rarity in 2012, Rodgers immediately thanks the system and says how it is possible to win playing this way. However, whenever Rodgers loses a match, it’s never “The Brendan Way’s” fault, interestingly. It’s always a lack of concentration or a flat performance which invariably means a disappointing result. But why on earth would the media or fans lambast a manager who is, just after all, trying to play football the ‘right way’. Losing matches whilst playing “The Brendan Way” is inevitable. The fans, media, players and pundits should just accept it and welcome what Brendan Rodgers is trying to implement.

Rodgers talks a lot about “footballing education”. Now is that a BTEC or extra UCAS points? Because some players have other escapisms, you know, like playing FIFA or FIFA. What is a “footballing education”? Are the players that inept? Don’t worry, though, it’s in “The Brendan Way”. Some of you might be confused as to what exactly is  “The Brendan Way” but it is a footballing bible. It creates Rodgers more time and space to do the job he failed at Reading and to show the media what the “footballing education” needs.

Joe Allen cost £15million. Deal with it. It’s in the footballing bible “The Brendan Way”. Page number 709. Right next to “Compare Joe Allen with Xavi”.

It’s hardly biased is it? I’ve read the article and it’s an observation of Brendan Rodgers. Not everything in life has to be biased, you moron

well…i thing this article is full of negativity..

branden rodgers inherited swansea side already playing well thanks to martinez? but it was rodgers that got them promoted n 11 in last season, the fact that the credit has gone to rodgers is not a new thing, what jose mourinho, pep, mancini have always inherited is lots of cash n good team. no one talks abt this when these guys are hailed as super managers for winning trophies . it is not abt just inheriting a side, but managing the side with all fixtures through bad n good times, through injuries n all problems.

forget abt the swansea, look at us any faint hearted guy wont have choose the liverpool hot seat , considering the fate of the previous mangers, rafa, roy n kenny . still he did n has managed to turn the tide, with limited money , limited squad , n bunch of teenagers.
abt his philosophy, well can you say the same thing abt liverpool? (that like swansea he inherited something from previous manager )here what kenny gave him was a directionless squad, with so much of deadwood, n signings who were not good enough. it was pathetic stuff . still he manged to get something out for these guys, this liverpool has intent, a direction n increase in self believe day by day , improvements from players like johnson, jose enriqe, henderson. youth players like wisdom, suso, sterling challenging the the first team spot. YOU HAVE TO CREDIT RODGERS for all this.

abt the wins n losses =
i know football is not abt if n but , and may sound stupid but, look at the performance , and silly points droped against city n everton(disallowed goal) n man u(literally robbed) even we accept all our shortcoming for defeats bt vill etc, n draws we could have easily at 3rd spot. not to mention we have not been allotted a single penalty this season .
fact of the matter is br is a good manager with good knowledge n application , even if we separate our ways in future (hopefully not) , it will be our loss n other teams gain , he will have many clubs waiting for him sure. irrespective of you calling it deserved credit or self-promotion.
