Breaking down Arsenal’s January transfer XI:

It tells you something when talkSPORT publish an article entitled: ‘Look how good Arsenal’s team could be after the January transfer window!’ The message being, that the current Arsenal team isn’t really up to snuff.

And they have a point. For one reason or another, this Arsenal side just doesn’t seem to ‘click’ together. The players as individuals are all talented, but there appears to be a lack of balance in the way the Arsenal team is currently set up.

Suffice to say, it’s little wonder that so many Arsenal fans are looking forward to the January transfer window with baited breath. A 2-0 home victory over West Brom (a side whose form appears to have dipped) will have done little to dampen the fears that Arsenal don’t have the chutzpah to compete.

So who are the players included in the transfer XI?

TalkSPORT have included three new signings: Jetro Willems, Wilfried Zaha and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar. I have to say, all three players strike me as astute additions.

Jetro Willems is a PSV full-back and senior Dutch International, who would surely provide ample competition for the likes of Kieran Gibbs. This would help ease the worry that always surfaces whenever he England International gets injured and provide Andre Santos with the motivation to jump ship (that’s a good thing).

We’ve all heard a lot about Wilfried Zaha over the last year or so. The Crystal Palace starlet has firmly established himself as one of the best young talents in English football and is already a target for many top clubs. The fact that he’s an Arsenal fan may force the issue and Arsene Wenger may view him as a replacement for Theo Walcott, whose Arsenal days look to be somewhat limited.

But the key addition will be Klaas-Jan Huntelaar. Despite Olivier Giroud’s best efforts, the Gunners are crying out for another striker. Robin Van Persie’s summer exit has hit the club hard and it’s about time the North London side found a proper replacement for him. With his Schalke 04 running down, he wouldn’t break the bank and his record at every level of the game is fairly remarkable.

He has the pedigree, the desire and an attractive price-tag. Arsene Wenger would be mad to turn him away.

Whilst I’d argue that Arsenal also need a defensive midfielder, this ‘transfer XI’ goes a long way to fixing some of the issues that have arisen throughout this season. So let’s hope that Arsene Wenger can make some of these deals happen.

What’s your take? How do you like the look of the Arsenal January transfer XI?

I’m not sure about Zaha. I would prefer AW to keep Walcott, buy KJH as well as a defensive midfielder. Rosicky, Diaby, Santos, Squillacci, Djouro & Ramsey all need to go. He is over-loaded with average midfielders. How can he accommodate the likes of Gervinho, Podolski, Walcott & Ox, when they are basically playing for 2 positions. Would going back to a 4-4-2 make more sense, hitting team on the counter attack like we did when everybody feared us. Pires, Freddie, Henry & PV4 all breaking at speed. We could have that again with Ox & Theo on the wings. Cazorla plays the Bergkamp role, while Wilshere & Arteta hold the middle.

i wish cavani could come but if arsenal is going to score goals … they need to stop using the 4-5-1 formation. they use it … goals will come quickly..possible signings/ ba, huntelaar, reina zaha and strootman. if we buy the two strikers and the goalkeeper… arsenal will compete in the title race

    HATERS ALWAYS HATE/
