Having witnessed Swansea City beat Arsenal at their own passing game at the weekend, it’s now clear that the Gunners’ little blip has transformed into a full-blown crisis. And I don’t use that word lightly.

The media is all too quick to turn to hyperbole, but I don’t think that I’m exaggerating in this case. It’s all too clear that Arsenal are a selling club – they buy cheap and they sell for a big profit. That’s all well and good when the club is producing a decent amount of talent, but when that particular spring dries up, it doesn’t leave Arsenal with many options.

After all, how are you supposed to get by when you keep selling your best talent? How are you supposed to build a team when you don’t reward those who perform on a regular basis?

Despite myself, I can’t help but hold out some hope that Arsene Wenger can turn it around in the transfer window. The Frenchman was once the world’s best judge of talent and though his form seems to have slumped in the last half-decade or so, this may well be due to limitations placed on his budget by the club itself.

Now that the club has secured a superb new commercial deal, there can be no excuses. Wenger has the money to spend and it’s clear to just about everybody that he needs to spend it. Indeed, failure to do so should result in the immediate dismissal of him and the rest of the board. That’s how imperative it has become. Fans have been maltreated for long enough.

There are plenty of good players out there who can improve this Arsenal side if Wenger is willing to splash the cash. The first priority should be signing a new striker. The second priority should be getting rid of Tomas Rosicky (always injured), Abou Diaby (always injured) and Aaron Ramsey (not quite good enough) and replacing them with a couple of genuine talents. Talent like PSV Eindhoven’s ace midfielder Kevin Strootman (who The Metro link to Arsenal).

The 22-year-old Dutchman is considered one of the best young talents in world football and looks set to have a big future. In many ways, he’s a younger version of Wesley Sneijder: he moves the ball about gracefully, has excellent technical ability and reads the game particularly well. He’d make an excellent addition at Arsenal, providing a few new bodies followed him through the door.

Let’s just hope Wenger’s ready to start re-building this January.

What’s your take? Would Kevin Strootman be a good addition at the Emirates?

Fully agree about Ramsey.Since he came on he hasn’t set the Emirates alight. There are countlss others who haved on.
The other thing is the the gunners tippy tappy soccer. It’s pretty soccer but it won’t win games.
When you see how other teams score with simple passes and movements you wonder why Wenger is making it so difficult for the gunners.
The gunnrs are still very vulnerable to the sucker punch and until Wenger resolves this Arsenal will continue to struggle even with the addition of new players.
