Arsenal chasing FOUR signings, but will it be enough?

|

Another game, another disappointing Arsenal performance. It’s become an all too regular occurrence at the Emirates and the malaise has now well and truly set in. Whilst the Gunners have gone through bad patches in the past under Arsene Wenger, this slump seems particularly terminal.

One thing’s for sure, heads will roll this January.

Yes, the Arsenal team was packed out with fringe players and youngsters against Olympiakos, but I don’t think this quite excuses the lackluster display. Arsenal youngsters used to play with passion, drive and flair. This Arsenal side looked for every ‘safe option’ available to them, passed the ball slowly and refused to take players on. It was a gutless, passion free affair and a tough watch. Olympiakos were good value for their 2-1 win.

Suffice to say, most of these fringe players will find themselves tossed out of the club over the next couple of transfer windows, providing a team can be found who will have them.

After that, Arsene Wenger has his work cut out to find the players with whom he can re-build his side. It’s something of a relief therefore, to see the Daily Mail claim that the Gunners are chasing Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Wilfried Zaha, Pepe Reina and Thierry Henry.

For me, all of these signings make a great deal of sense. Huntelaar is a top international striker who has proved himself at every level (yes, except at Real Madrid – yawn). The Gunners are in desperate need of the real deal and could use a couple of options upfront. This is probably why Wenger is also chasing down Thierry Henry. Wilfried Zaha is a player with a big future, who looks like he may replace Theo Walcott in this Arsenal side, whilst Pepe Reina will ease the burden on Wojciech Szczesny.

Except for Zaha, these are all experienced players, who could help add significant depth to this Arsenal side. It’d be foolish for Arsenal fans to act like these kind of signings are beneath them.

I will say this however: none of these players represents the kind of ‘special’ signing, that Arsenal desperately need to spark them into life. None of them have Santi Cazorla levels of talent (though Zaha may in the future) and Arsene may have to do some digging if he’s to pull the Gunners back into contention. All we can do, I suppose, is cross our fingers.

What’s your take? Could these four signings be enough for the Gunners to steady the ship?

are you serious Pepe and why Henry ??? common what is Wenger doing?

  • Jack says:

Reina, Henry, Huntelaar and Fellani would make a big difference. Zaha is overrated

  • HASSAN says:

As a matter of fact, after discovering & loosing talented players like hazard & mata to our london rivals as a result of wenger & arsenal boards reckless transfer policies,if we end up loosing MARIO GOTZE to any of our domestic rivals again, then iam seased from being an arsenal fan,so wenger & the board should please do every thing that is necessary to bring the german international to the emirate in january or summer transfer,if possible along with his team mate MARCO REUS.

    • trugun says:

Seriously? you think stopping your support for Arsenal will make the board sign a player.

WTF are you serious how could you even consider losing your faith in the gooners? So we are in a poor run of form as of recent. It can only be up from here. We have a new Sponsorship deal. Reports say Wenger has been given access to £70m and even if those are false we have enough money in to buy the players we need like and experienced Prem Goalie like Reina, an unbelievably underrated goal scorer like Huntelaar and another future star like Zaha. Henry is here more to lift morale and try and get the squad we love back into winning form.
We already have a good squad but everybody slumps in form. Everyone.

But if you are going to stop supporting them over recent events than can you really call yourself a true gunner? No is the answer. When you understand what loyalty to a club is then comment but until then sit back and be patient and watch Arsenal recover right before you disbelieving eyes like they do every season.

      COME ON YOU GOONERS!

Still not sure of huntelaar, but we do need a striker for now, reina looks like a keeper that knows he won’t wear the spanish jersey, but we do need a keeper,I would rather scratch reina and go for a d’midfielder fellaini, one of the bender brothers etc. Zaha is an overrated english guy,if walcott leaves would rather go for jesus navas

AIMI ??? Where are Jenkinson, Rosicky, Per,? Odolski ahead of Giroud? Worst still Diaby & Mannone ? I think you better start researching our club rather than picking a nothing team.

What we need more than another 4 forwards is a world class DMF and poacher.

  • Temple says:

Whch riena 4 arsenal! God no go agree.

  • Jordan says:

Its wishful thinking but possible if we don’t do cheap. I’d like to see us sign Huntelaar, Felaini, and Verratti or Isco. I think Felaini is the powerful player we need the most. The lack of size is the reason we r struggling. We were looking great til Diaby got injured and we haven’t been the same since. I like Giroud and think he will be good but we can’t wait so Huntelaar has a proven record and is a proven goal scorer at a high level. Then I think we need a midfielder who can play those amazing through balls and make the difference against teams that pack it in against us. Wiltshire and our mids have shown they can possess amazingly but only Carzola can really pierce the D. Another creative passer would help us a lot. There r obviously better players but none we can afford. I think the addition of these players would lift us up to 3rd in the league and put us in a good place to win it next year.
