A shock return to the Emirates? Should Arsenal call on this ex-player?

Arsenal have fallen a long way off the pace this season. After a troubling summer in which they lost their best player, they’ve really struggled. I have little doubt that Arsene Wenger’s attempts to ‘fix’ this team will take him into areas of the transfer market he’d rather not be looking at.

Arsene is famous for his attacking outlook. Over the last decade or so he has snapped up the best young offensive talent in Europe and let them ply their trade at the Emirates – for better, for worse.

This January, however, Wenger may also be on the look for a new goalkeeper (to provide a little competition for Wojciech Szczesny) another defender (a right-back if Bacary Sagna moves on) and a defensive midfielder.

But there are some places you hope that Arsene wont plunder during the next transfer window. Take for instance, SportPulses’ claims that Samir Nasri “still misses many of his teammates that are still at Arsenal and is feeling like re-uniting with them”. (via BleacherReport).

Woah, hold up! This is the same Samir Nasri that Arsenal unloaded onto Manchester City back in August 2011. They managed to sell him for around £25m, which is beginning to look more and more like a good piece of business for the Gunners considering his contract situation and what we’ve seen of him since.

The man is a coward. When the going gets tough, he goes into hiding. Just ask the City fans, who watched mouths agape as he allowed Robin Van Persie to curl in a free-kick in the dying minutes of the last Manchester derby. The problem? Nasri could have stopped it, but was hiding behind his nearest teammate.

I’ll also never forget his show down with Emmanuel Frimpong in the Carling Cup last season, when the tenacious youngster made Samir look like a bit of a chump. ‘Frimmie’ squared up to him and Nasri was anonymous for the rest of the game. There’s a distinct lack of character about the Frenchman, despite his abundant technical ability.

And that’s the problem about this Arsenal side at the moment: it lacks character. Beyond Jack Wilshere and a few others, this is a team that lacks drive and personality to really strike a chord in the Premier League and abroad. With that in mind, it’s clear that Samir Nasri is not the answer.

So here’s hoping that Wenger stays well clear of this one. It would be a big mistake to start digging up the past in this manner.

What’s your take? Should Samir Nasri make a shock return to the Emirates?

Yes i already welcome him but the problem is wenger. If were him i will sell ramsey and gervinho because the always be in line-up but like chamack johan etc and resign nasri. Gunners like God never start with small latters

You are both high! We need fighters and people who are actually passionate about playing for Arsenal. Samir can suck my left one! He’s not welcome and never will be! He’s more than happy sitting on the City bench collecting his paycheck, draining the ‘baby blue’s’ further in to FFP hell.
