A £12m addition sure to add firepower to Liverpool’s attack?

Whilst it’s a pretty terrible time to be a Liverpool fan, I think it’s worth sparing a thought for Chelsea and the unruly masses that make up their particular fan-base. You get the feeling that Liverpool could fix many of their issues with a few smart purchases in the transfer market.

Chelsea on the other hand, have a more terminal issue. They have top players, but any sense of union of teamwork seems to have evaporated. Chelsea is now full of talented, egoistic individuals and aging legs and it’s not proving to be a good mix. After a fantastic start to the season, their soft underbelly seems to have been exposed.

Liverpool, on the other hand, represent almost the exact opposite of Chelsea. The Reds started the season particularly badly, but have maintained a level of dignity, largely thanks to top notch performances from the likes of Luis Suarez. Whilst they’re still someway off the pace, a couple of potent attacking additions could change everything.

So it’s little wonder that the Reds have been linked to Chelsea forward Daniel Sturridge on such a regular basis. The Express are the latest to have claimed that this transfer is in its final stages and they suggest that a £12m could be completed this January. The player himself has expressed his frustrations in the past and would surely be excited to kick-start his career in new surroundings.

Sturridge is now 23-years-old and is ready for a regular place in a top team. He’s not given the opportunities he needs to impress at Stamford Bridge, but would be the main man upfront for Liverpool (alongside Luis Suarez). The young Englishman and the Uruguayan would surely make for great striking partners. One has pace and finishing ability and one has immaculate technical ability and the nous to work space for his teammates.

It could be the perfect storm for Liverpool. Whilst the Reds don’t have a lot of money to spend nowadays, I would argue that Sturridge would represent a smart addition. He wouldn’t break the bank, but would surely add some serious firepower to an ailing Liverpool attack.

Whist Kenny Dalglish’s ‘best of British’ campaign was a complete failure, that’s no reason to be distrustful of talented young players like Sturridge.  It’s time for Liverpool fans to keep the faith.

What’s your take? Should Liverpool finalise a deal for Daniel Sturridge or steer well clear?

When AVB was there and he was playing regularly on the right side last season, I think his record was 11 in 34. That is excellent. And when he went on loan to Bolton and played as a striker, I’m pretty sure his record was 1 in 2. That is a quality player.

    • CStars says:

Sturridge actually scored 8 in 12 at Bolton as a striker and 9 in his first 13 games for Chelsea as a right forward.

He can go on impressive streaks eh?

  • Michael58 says:

No chance we will sell him now considering it looks like we are sending the flop to Russia to Ahnzi .
So Brendan can dream all he wants .

On the other hand consider yourselves lucky ,he is egotistical ,greedy ,will not pass ,flubs almost as many shots as Nando and not a team player ,if that was not enough he is made of glass and injured all the time .

Wouldn’t buy more English cr*p ? FOOLGLISH did enough of that on his own ? We still need rid of Carroll downing Henderson ASAP ? Yet on there wages,I can’t see another premier league manager with a brain cell wanting to touch these pathetic signings with a barge pole !!! Cheers FOOLGLISH…

You’re that FOOLGLISH guy that posts everywhere with the exact same post. It’s an honour!

Seriously though, did Kenny Dalglish ignore you once upon a time when you asked for an autograph of your favourite Dalglish portrait? It’s never been the same has it?
