Why Arsenal have to beat Sir Alex to this signing:

Marouane Fellaini’s future seems to lie away from Goodison Park. The fans know it, his manager knows it and the player seems to know it. Whilst he’s keen to keep on Everton fan’s good side, he has hardly denied that he would be willing to move.

Speaking to Football Focus earlier this year, he said: “When I came here, I played an FA Cup final against Chelsea, I lost. Last year I played (a) semi-final (and) lost, and so I hope to win something this year. But also I want to play (in the) Champions League, if it’s possible with Everton. But if not, with another team. But I want to play (in the) Champions League.”

The ‘if not, with another team’, is pretty key here. Even David Moyes seems resigned to the fact that he may not be able to keep hold of this particular talent:

If we have top players and cannot give them trophies or European football, I may have to accept what they’re thinking.”

Which leads to Emirates 24/7 claiming that both Arsene Wenger and Sir Alex Ferguson are interested in poaching Fellaini away from Everton and into their respective teams. It’s my feeling that the Belgian International could improve any Premier League side.

If you were to ask me who he’d fit in with best, I think the answer is clear.

Manchester United have a solid midfield. They are title favourites. Bolstering the midfield isn’t a priority.

Arsenal, on the other hand, are in complete disarray. Results aren’t going their way and performances are leaving plenty to be desired. A transfer fix may be exactly what’s needed. Whilst their first choice midfield is actually pretty strong (Mikel Arteta, Santi Cazorla and Jack Wilshere are a formidable trio) the replacements just aren’t good enough. Aaron Ramsey doesn’t seem to influence games. Abou Diaby and Tomas Rosicky are never fit.

Counter to how things may appear, this is an area where Arsenal need to strengthen. Fellaini would make for the perfect target. He would add bite and fight to a midfield that gives up too easy and is more than capable of playing the high-level technical football that Arsene Wenger just loves. He’ll win more balls in the air, help add pace to the Gunner’s passing game and may well provide the spark that they desperately need.

If there is to be a battle for his services in the future, I can’t help but hope that Arsene Wenger wins it.

What’s your take? Would Marouane Fellaini be a good addition at the Emirates?

What an ill informed article. You do realise that Arsenal are no better than Everton? Do you honestly think Arsenal have got any chance of signing him? If Fellaini leaves Everton it will be to Real Madrid, Bayern or Chelsea. A top European club. Definitely not Arsenal. Also can you see Wenger paying the 35 million it would take to get him? He’s that good and miles out of Arsenal’s league. He could grace any team in the world. That is from someone who’s watched him develop and grow every week for the last four years.

This. Everton would never sell to a side competing for 4th. Also, they screwed us over with Arteta, so Moyes won’t sell to them. To the editor: stop stirring the pot to get views on your terrible site.

My word, you don’t even listen to him. “i want to play Champions league”. If he moves in Jan for this reason – it won’t be to Arsenal. Why move from the best club in Merseyside to the third best in London? Besides only the Manchesters and Chelsea can afford him. And have you considered that the fervent head shaking from Arteta standing right behind Arsne might dissuade him from signing? Man U, Chelsea (just about) and City have a competitive side right now. Arsenal always ‘might’ have in two or three years.

  • paddybacino says:

another everton player arsenal are after(join the queue),how about baines, jagielka get rid of wenger and sign moyes as well.
sorry theres absolutly no chance of this happening,i think fellaini is aiming higher and theres no way aresenal will pay the fee anyway.

  • taiye toba says:

Just dream on!! Arsenal fc are no more competitive, i see no reason why Fellaini would like to come. No player will come to arsenal when clubs like man u, chelsea and city are come knocking. Besides, Everton may as well finish above arsenal this season if their form is to be considered.

  • Hard Ogura says:

Its true he might be aiming higher but now who is willing to buy him in Jan or in need of his service at that price?

May be Chelsea who just recorded a reasonable profit, Man City or Italian teams. Although it would have been Arsenal who would have really needed his immediate service. I mean with swaps and money anything can happen although Moyos would prefer doing business with the likes of Fergus in premier than any other manager, then others will oputside premier

  • Zane says:

Lmao! These writers are obsessed with Arsenal,Liverpool and Man united. There’s nothing much on this site other than the three clubs I mentioned. Marouane clearly stated that his ambitions are to play in the Champions League and that probably means with a club who can actually win it. Arsenal? NO CHANCE! They bring stardom to players, that’s all…this guy is already a star. Man United,I don’t know. Maybe but I don’t see them winning the European prize with that squad.

  • hozey says:

haters are always there but 1 thing is for sure tht if he were to remain in THE EPL its arsenal who wil get him and cheaply too

  • BlueH says:

What part of Fellaini wanting CL football do you not get? As things stand he’s looking more likely to get that with Everton than a faltering Arsenal side. Sorry but if Felli goes it’ll be to a bigger club than Arsenal now are, and for a lot more than they’ll be willing to pay.

  • mosh says:

Now look at theses fools claiming Arsenal can’t win the Champions League. Who gave Chelsea “7th” in EPL last season any chance to win the ECL? You are all deluded brats plus besides the article talked about who needs him most and as a matter of fact he’s nowhere near Jack Wilshere, Carzola or Arteta

  • Shanks says:

How about dreaming up articles positing “Suarez up for grabs” or “Bale has to leave for top club”
Always “plucky little Everton” whose players have to move on, is it not?
    Tired, lazy hack “journalism”
Well it’s a quiet night; think I’ll look down the League table to see how far some of the big clubs are below Everton

  • Patrick says:

@ mosh you do realise Fellaini is doing Arteta’s Everton job a little better than ‘the best little Spaniard we know’ did? And this, inflammatory at best, article is claiming your club is now after the guy that replaced the guy (with some notable effect) that you recently paid very much over the odds for. You happy with that?

  • Mohd Isa says:

If Arsenal get into a transfer tangle with any of the top 3,they will lose. However it depends on the needs of the top 3.If their need is desperate,Arsenal have no chance.
The other thing is to buy the top players of the challenging teams. None of the top 3 will do businee with each other.By buying RVP,the red faced has effectively weakened Arsenal who could have mounted a serious assault on the epl 2012-13.
Red faced has been using this strategy since 1998.
Cole was different because KK got Sheare. When AV became dangerous,he got Yorke. He wanted to buy Veira, etc to weaken Arsenal but failed.
If the gunners fail to get cl berth 2012-13,expect Vermallen,Chamberlain and other top guys to be sold reluctantly.

  • Patrick says:

Oh and; come back Mikel, she don’t love you like we do. Ask Peanuts. COYB.

  • Tony woodcocksucker says:

Everton scum . U finished in champions league position once . Jokers !!!! Lol . That season we battered u 7 nil at highbury. That was hilarious. The one Everton player to look good that night was arteta . U guys can’t admit he has done a great job since coming to us … Sour grapes . I admit rvp is doing great at Man U coz he is . It’s called humility . U r jus deluded and 11 games in you are gobbing off as u had a half decent start . Well done . Enjoy it …. No doubt u will regain ur mid table spot soon enough lol !!!! U suck

  • joseph makuer says:

De problem is dat wenger don’t want to buy player with high price like around 30£ to 35£ millions

  • MR FOOTBALL says:

I put it straight, everton isn’t bigger dan arsenal,@ outside injury, fellaini isn’t better dan diaby or wilsher.so, d likes of AL,TAIYE, HARD shud stop belittling arsenal.i know d inclusion of fellaini in arsenal will be a massive plus. arsene wenger shud show seriousness in getting him & fellaini will glad to join us..to d doubters, i ve dis to tell dem, SURELY THERE IS A TROPHY FOR ARSENAL DIS YEAR & A CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FOOTBALL COME NEXT SEASON

  • GoonerLife says:

You guys make me laugh, Arsenal have two poor starts to a season in a row and all of a sudden Everton are better . Fellaini is a class player a monster but he’s in Arsenals league don’t forget that. I can’t see Everton finishing above the gooners. That’s a joke #COYG

  • chris says:

Arsenal no better than Everton, give over!

A better start to the new season hardly counts above every other quantifiable comparison, does it?

Everton and those like them with top 4 aspirations (Newcastle, Spurs, Liverpool(lol) etc), may have good periods or seasons where they punch above their weight, but they simply do not have the size and resources to keep their top talent whilst buying more and maintaining their status.

Arsenal are a testament to the fact that that you need the best to compete, but if you do not have the muscle to get to the very top, the best players will move to the clubs that CAN afford to sustain it.
