Avid Arsenal fan Piers Morgan joined the Drive boys on TalkSport on Monday night to voice his opinion on both Arsenal and Arsene Wenger. In a controversial interview, Piers highlighted the success that Arsene Wenger has brought to the club, with the double winning and invincible seasons being the most notable – but argues Wenger’s time is up.

The 63 year old Frenchman has enjoyed a fantastic sixteen year tenure at Arsenal, but after he has lead Arsenal to their worst start to the league for 30 years, is it time for him to step down?

Arsenal have sold their last two club captains; Fabregas to Barcelona and Robin Van Persie to Manchester United, and even more annoyingly for Piers they have not replaced them with as good players. He feels that even though Arsenal have the money, they are not spending it and subsequently are not competing in the Premier League or in Europe. How can Arsenal sell Van Persie? If they are going to sell their best player they must do two things – not sell him to a league rival and have a suitable replacement to come in. But Morgan believes this hasn’t been Arsenal’s only downfall this season.

Not only did Arsenal sell their best player, Robin Van Persie, to Premier League rivals Manchester United in the summer, but they are failing to impress on the football field too. Arsenal have been very poor in recent weeks losing 2-0 at home to Shalke, losing 1-0 away at Norwich, narrowly beating 10 men QPR 1-0 and throwing away two 2-0 leads against Shalke and Fulham respectively, not to mention going 4-0 down in the cup against win-less Reading.

Morgan believes that Wenger has got his tactics completely wrong and has made some very bad decisions that have cost Arsenal. He understands when Arsenal lose to United and Chelsea as Arsenal ‘are not in the same league as them anymore’ but believes that the recent results have not been acceptable. He argues that Arsenal now have the weakest team that Wenger has overseen and are falling behind in the league and are already out of the title race, despite Wenger’s adamant opinion that they are still in with a chance.

Morgan goes on to thank and show his gratitude to Arsene Wenger for his fantastic tenure at Arsenal but feels that his time is up and he has ‘lost the plot’. He realises that the unthinkable (sacking Arsene) may have to become a reality in the near future if Arsene want to go forward. Morgan highlights Guardiola, Redknapp and Moyes as possible replacements for Arsene and sides with Harry Redknapp to be the man to take over. The Ex-Spurs manager would do a fantastic job in the views of Morgan and would bring a more English frontier to a usual foreign looking Arsenal team.

Although Morgan understands the difficultly in ‘divorcing’ Arsene Wenger he feels that it is a necessary deed and it is a must if Arsenal want to move forward. Do you agree with Piers?

Is it really time for Arsene Wenger to leave Arsenal after 16 years in charge?

No its Piers Morgan who has lost the plot-many years ago!!
Who the bloody hell does he think he is-the spokesman for Arsenal fans?
Most fans think he is a complete prat with little or no knowledge of football-this is shown by him suggesting that Harry Redknapp should take over!!

  • Kwaragunner says:

Er…… What can i say? Piers obviously has a deep understanding of everything concerning arsenal, but to suggest harry as the man to suitably replace wenger, is a joke of the highest order. Very laughable. Piers, pls say something else.

  • dude says:

    Guardiola or Moyes

  • richard morgan says:

Piers has lostn the plot, we may have our worst points total at his stage of season, but defensively we are oly second to city in the top half of table and only stoke and sunderland are comparable. We scored our fewest goals in a season last season and tat is even with the much lauded van persie. how Piers can assess Giroud and Poldolski before end of season is ridiculous. We won the capital one game against reading and are again in the quarter finals of that competition. City look almost out of europe Chelsea if they lose to juve could fail to quaiy to that would leave us and utd flying the flag. As for premiership city are the only unbeaten team and they have not played well yet so itwil be hard see past them but that was case at beginning of season. Chelsea and utd have spent well. Have we got money to spend really what people espouse and what is real are totally different. wenger has spent money in past on henry for example so it suggests rather han being afraid to spend money he is spending more wisely that the amount he gets in transfer kitty he wants to buy more players and extend currrent players contracts. On selling players like van persie and fabregas and nasri you can’t make players resign and when you get to that final length of contract do you hold them to it and lose them for nothing or sell them on and get something for them. people are worried yet we have yet to play our best footbal and as a team are getting to gel as a unit the team that has played the last few matches did not play a whole pre season together.

  • Girma Batu says:

Yes I agree, time is over and we beg him to leave arsenal for Guardiola

  • niko says:

I don’t know if Wenger has lost the plot but certaintly he is not on the right track.

  • Chris Markham says:

Did Arsenal really sell Fabregas to Arsenal? 😉

  • Samson Okpe says:

Piers morgan is absolutely correct. It is only deaf and dump arsenal fans that are not seeing the writing on the wall. This is a team that have lost its flair, this is a coach that have sold our best players at their prime-fabregas,van persie, nasri, flamini, song, adebayor, clichy etc.

  • Samson Okpe says:

You better accept the bitter truth, wenger is declining.Wenger cannot even maintain the quality of players he brought to the club nowadays.players like arshavin, chamakh, squillaci, park, podolski and giroud were all quality players before their arrival at the club.Unlike before where average players like wiltod, henry, pires, vieira, kanu, lauren, van persie, ljungberg, keownetc were turn to superstars on arrival at the club. The truth is always bitter, but the facts are there for you to see.

  • the king says:

if real fans would really think
    they might agree with him,
    in a way his right.

there is no arsenal fan out there that is happy how the club is going. we keep selling our best players
and bring in avrage players. everyyyyy year the board never uses there budge.
its a joke we pay the highest we are a rich club yet no money gets invested in it.
where dose the money go to coz it aint going back to the club….its going in to the pockets of the board and we all okay with this.

wenger when we played agains united and city and chealse.

it was like we was going there to get a draw using ramsey on the wing shows that we was going to defend.
its the same as a team like stoke comes to us they come to defend.

    i dont understand some fans
do they think things will get better do they really believe this fair play will help us…wake up. the board or kronkoi will bleed the club dry and when after a few years when every fans protest they will leave with a veryyyyy big profit.

krokni is a business man not a fan he dose not car what happens to the club as long as we fans go and pay the highest and make then money.

we used to be one of the best teams in the world where top players wanted to join.
what are we now….even united fans feel bad for us.

  • steve. says:

I absolutely agree with Piers Morgan,Wengers not
fit to manage Arsenal, him and his so called
directors have been robbing Arsenal supporters for
the last seven seasons, selling all their quality
players for big money and replacing them with
players that aren’t fit to ware the Arsenal shirt,
some of the players Arsenal have got on their
books are on between 50 and £60,000 a week and they are absolutely crap, when te transfer window
opens Wenger carn’t give them away, never mind sell
them, for every good player Arsenal have got, there’s three that are rubbish, and yet some of our stupid supporters still say ,”IN ARSENE WE
TRUST,I SAY, TIME FOR A CHANGE,HE’S PAST IT”.

  • Mark Stefanyszyn says:

    A very controversial topic this!

I am on the fence here. Piers makes some very valid points and it is clear that Arsenal are heading in the wrong direction in terms of the Premier League and Europe.

However, Wenger has worked wonders at Arsenal and they are better defensively, even though recent performances suggest otherwise.

I cannot see the board sacking Wenger, but if Arsenal wish to move forward, something needs to change!

Or do Arsenal fans think Wenger AND this squad are good enough and just need time?

  • banny says:

    Wenger is crazy.
Why does he have to use Ramsey in every match.
    Ramsey is ShxT

  • The BearMan says:

If management and Arsene consider Arsenal’s best position in the Premiership at the end of each season is 3rd or 4th place then they all have lost there way. They confirm RvP’s strong and challenging criticism as being factual.

Wenger has lost the cutting edge!
