Arsene Wenger: dissecting the ‘you don’t know what you’re doing’ chants

It seems that the ‘Wenger out’ boo-boys are popping up after each and every defeat, only to hide away after each positive result.

The problem for Arsenal and one of the reasons why there’s such a crushing air of negativity surrounding the club at the moment, is that at the moment the Gunners are endeavouring to more negative results than positive runs. It’s only natural that fans frustrations would bubble over into something uglier.

This is surely the reason why Arsenal fans chanted ‘you don’t know what you’re doing’ at Arsene Wenger towards the end of the Gunners’ 0-0 draw with Aston Villa on Saturday. Let’s not forget, this is the man who has delivered Arsenal three Premier League titles and 4 FA Cups. Do fans really believe that he, one of football’s most intelligent individuals, doesn’t know what he’s doing?

The chants were a result of Arsene Wenger’s decision to pull off Olivier Giroud with 2 minutes of a deadlocked game remaining, only to replace him with defensive midfielder Francis Coquelin? I guess these fans hadn’t noticed that both Giroud and the entire Arsenal midfield was out on its last legs towards the end of the game?

It’s a move that made sense and may have provided the Gunners with a platform to build on. Moreover, it’s not like the game was decided on this decision. It was a flat Arsenal performance that brought about a disappointing result, not the decision to replace a striker who had done very little all game.

Arsene Wenger was understandably defensive about the chants: “How many games have you managed? I promise you if you manage one I will sit in the stands and chant ‘you know what you are doing!’ You can discuss every substitution. You think what you want. I do my job and I let people judge it. I do that every day and I do my best every day. I know why I do it.” (Source: ESPN).

That seems fair enough to me. I’m not blind to Arsene Wenger’s faults. He has made some mistakes over the last decades. But it’s frustrating to see Arsenal fans failing to pull together and support their team.

How must it feel for Francis Coquelin to come on to that kind of response? Why can’t fans get behind the best manager in their history, who is only trying to do the best he can with the players he has? It just doesn’t make sense to me. Surely it’s time to get behind the players, the manager and the club and help guide the Gunners out of this slump?

What’s your take? Can Arsene Wenger help Arsenal find their feet once more?

Wrong:- My job is to give full commitment to this club, with integrity?
Right:- My job is give full committment to the Masters that they ‘ll have plenty of cash ”
Wrong:- I always do without expecting any return?
Right:- I always expect in return, that I’ll be the manager for ever, even without wining a single trophy or any significant success.
Wrong:- I just make sure that I do my job properly?
Right:- I just make sure that Masters are happy and my job is secure, regardless what fans think and what players think
Wrong:- We have a good squad?
Right:- We have very very very good squad, like we have injury prone Diaby, bench warmer Chamakh, moody Arshavin, always misfiring Ramsey and dependable defence at the back four, and last but not the least ever reliable goalkeepers
WronG:- Wenger is reported to have up to £50million to splash in January
RighT:- Wenger is Cash Splasher :)) but ????? (don’t tell me, as I know ;))

If he had kept the good players like most top sides do in europe then wenger wouldn’t be in this position where he has to defend himself, and we would have had a premier league title by now,the way things are going it will be 10years without a trophy
