A €21m must have for Manchester United?

Despite never really impressing at any stage in the tournament thus far, Manchester United (at the time of writing) have just successfully earned entry into the Champions League round of 16.

United have shown a frustrating lack of quality against sides like FC Kluj and Braga and there are major concerns about United’s ability to go all the way. If they’re struggling to see off sides such as this, what will happen when they meet with a side like Barcelona?

History has taught us what to expect on these occasions and the events of this season will do little to persuade United fans that they can beat the top European sides.

The feeling remains that United need to bolster their midfield options. Whilst strikers like Robin Van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez are winning games for United, the midfield looks a little more stilted.

Players like Michael Carrick and Darren Ferguson are good at what they do, but they lack a certain dynamism. Shinji Kagawa doesn’t seem to provide the goal-threat or creative energy that it was hoped he would. Sir Alex may have to turn to the transfer market in order to right the wrongs in this department. And where better to look than Malaga, a club with plenty of talent in financial turmoil?

Specifically, I’m referring to their lauded playmaker, Isco. The young Spaniard has been linked to Manchester United by numerous sources (including GiveMeFootball) and has the ability to make his mark at Old Trafford. The aforementioned source provides the following quotes concerning Isco:

“Isco? There is a clause of €21m, but the guy is very happy to be in Malaga, he is a son of our city. He is a player who is ‘in fashion’ and courted by many teams, but for now he is happy with us.”

This is a player with a big future. He has the potential to be the dynamic playmaker that Sir Alex has lacked for some time. He could change the way United play and help them usurp Manchester City in the title race. For just €21m, he’d be a smart investment.

There are sure to be plenty of interested suitors in the 20-year-old, so Sir Alex will have to act fast if he’s to pull off this signing. We all know, however, that when Ferguson wants a player, he gets him. So let’s hope that Isco is on his radar this January!

What’s your take? Could Isco help shape the future of Manchester United’s midfield?

bit harsh about kagawa mate…its early days and he has shown sparks…i believe once he adapts he will be a great player..what united lack is a leader of men…i hate to say it but a player like roy keane…somebody to give the players who arnt performing a rollicking..we have a team of nice guys…which is great when your playing well…but when your away from home and ur struggling you need players like keane who will demand that extra 10 percent…plus against braga we were playing with ten men as wellbeck isnt actually a footballer..
