Is AFC Wimbledon in danger of splitting fans with boycott:

|

On the 2nd of December the game that has been waiting to happen since AFC Wimbledon gained promotion to the football league will commence. It will no doubt be the most eagerly anticipated pre 3rd round game in the FA Cup for some time and it will be between MK Dons and AFC Wimbledon. It will be a derby like no other as the history of each team is like no other.

After buying the club and moving it to Milton Keynes to the dismay of the Crazy Gang faithful in 2002, AFC Wimbledon was born. Now that the team that represents everything that is wrong with football will play against the team tha all aesthetic loving neutrals of the game have a soft spot for a big question will face many Wimbledon fan and a growing debate has surfaced: should the AFC fans boycott the game?

The idea behind boycotting the game is logical, why on earth pay the man that stole your club to watch a game of football at a ground with no soul? It’s a fair argument and if the entire of the away stand is empty come Sunday the 2nd then it’ll certainly send out a message. Of course it can also be said that you should support your team no matter what and if anything now is the time to get behind your team as defeating your rivals of this nature would be as sweet as watching Vinnie Jones head-butt Pete Winkelman the MK Dons chairmen.

Either way the thinking among AFC fans right now is 50-50 with a lot of fans vowing to never even recognise the existence of Stadium MK or it’s inhabitants and some having already bought tickets for the game.

A few compromises have been mentioned like going to the game and then the supporters turning their backs when it kicks off or releasing black balloons before the game but these moments will all be as meaningless as protesting about a teams ownership by walking the same route you always take to a game but in a larger crowd then going to the game anyway.

With so many fans doing different things then the potential for a rift amongst the home camp is possible and I only hope that nothing happens to spark any kind of civil fighting amongst the Wombling Wimbledon fans.

Fingers crossed that this is something that never happens. It may well be that the best thing to do would be to take the high road and pay the cash to go and support your team, show that it doesn’t bother you that much because money isn’t everything. By supporting AFC in a stupendous and outstanding way they can gain recognition from the country and the profile of the naughty MK Dons will be remembered once again. Sometimes the best way to show the bad qualities of something/someone is to show your best qualities.

Of course as supporters the fans of AFC Wimbledon can do as they choose as it’s their right but now that the game has been chosen by ITV to be shown live it would be a nice touch to have a big screen set up at the AFC Wimbledon ground with a sell out crowd.

Whatever happens I will be watching on Sunday the 2nd in hope that mountainous support has gone to follow AFC Wimbledon. What do you think the fans should do?

As a Womble i’ll be going. My friends are 50/50 down the middle, and feelings, are still running strong amongst supporters, but there’s a mutual respect whatever your decision ,, and that runs throughout the fans 100%. There’s certainly no Potential Rift” as quoted
When we nearly met two years ago, also in the FA Cup, it made me feel sick, i wouldn’t have attended, but two years on, i’ve moved on a little…. It will always be the first result i look for, and if they lose, after we lose, the day don’t feel so bad after-all !! But i have to support the team,,, think about it ,,, if we were to win, i’d never forgive myself not being there !!!
