He’s ready to move on, but should Manchester United let him go?

Whatever happens to Manchester United forward Federico Macheda, I’m sure fans will remember him fondly.

After all, he enjoyed one of the most memorable debits of recent times, when he came off the bench to smash home a late winner against Aston Villa back in April 2009. It completed the comeback for Manchester United and it should have announced the arrival of an important player.

Unfortunately, it appears he peaked too early. The Italian forward has struggled over the last couple of seasons and it could well be that he never actualizes the potential he demonstrated back when he was just starting out in the Premier League. Shame.

Indeed, it has been made clear that the player in question is willing to leave Manchester United this January, should he not be given more opportunities to impress. You get the feeling, that his Manchester United career is well and truly petering out.

Loan spells at Serie A side Sampdoria and QPR just haven’t worked out. Sampdoria got relegated whilst Macheda was at the club and the Italian just wasn’t trusted at QPR, where he failed to grab a single goal.

This is hardly a good platform for him to return to Old Trafford and start hassling Sir Alex Ferguson for some game time. At a big club like Manchester United, you have to earn your place in the first team. Macheda is some way away from doing that. What’s more, the summer signing of Robin Van Persie has meant that he is even further away from any first team action.

Macheda’s agent, Giovanni Bia has made his client’s position clear: “How can he be decisive for the team if he never plays? Manchester United have some phenomenal players in attack, so it is truly difficult for Federico to find space. It’s not true what they write in the English papers that he’s going through a bad spell. He wants to play and if he cannot do so by January then we’ll try to find an alternative solution. I will talk to Sir Alex Ferguson over the next few days.” (Source: Sport360)

If there’s interest in Macheda from outside of Manchester, then I hope some kind of arrangement can be made. There’s no use sending him on multiple loan-moves and hoping he will come good. He needs a new home and a new opportunity to create fantastic moments like he did back in April 2009.

What’s your take? Is it time for Federico to move on from Manchester United?

Macheda’s time is unfortunately over at Manchester United, he was a great talent but just failed to live up to his early promise. Good luck kid.
