It pains me to say it: the time’s right for Ally McCoist to move on

This is the article I never wanted to write. Even as I type it I feel upset, I wish things didn’t have to come to this. But, it is with a heavy heart I must say that the time has come for a parting of the ways between Ally McCoist and Rangers Football Club.

The loss at Stirling Albion, the latest in a worryingly increasing trend of poor performances, may well present itself as a watershed moment in the history of the club.It is becoming more and more difficult for the biggest supporters of Ally to be able to defend him, as his tenure as Gers manager is turning into a disastrous one.

Last season was bad enough without the fall out from administration, but so far this campaign has been one embarrassment after another and I for one do not see any real prospect of that changing whilst Ally McCoist continues in his existing post.

The danger is that he follows into the same path as John Greig, a true legend as a player but a  failure as manager.

It is frankly tiresome to listen to Ally after every away inept display. It sounds like a broken record as he speaks of his frustrations and acknowledgement that the performances are not acceptable and that changes may have to be made.

Making mistakes is one thing, but continuing to make the same ones time after time is not. It is now a major concern.

As each game passes it becomes more and more apparent that Ally is struggling tactically to come up with a game plan which can see his side break down the opposition, without having to resort to the tiresome routine of lumping it forward.

How many more times do the Gers travelling support have to suffer in traveling the length and breadth of the country, only to see the team stumble along performing poorly and not taking the game by the scruff on the neck? It makes you wonder what the heck is going on at Murray Park?

There just does not appear to be any real structure in Ally’s game plan. He looks lost when required to alter things if it is not going to plan and as mentioned earlier this is not a new thing.

Last year we witnessed the awful displays against Malmo, Maribor, Falkirk and Dundee United which resulted in early exits from the cup competitions. This year has been the same.

A need for an additional thirty minutes to beat Brechin, lacklustre showings at Peterhead, Berwick, Annan, Forres and now Stirling – its all becoming a regular habit as Ally McCoist’s Rangers fail to reach the required levels to defeat part-timers.

The Queen Of The South match should have caused alarm bells to be ringing loud and clear in the ears of the managerial team at Murray Park, but there has been no signs of any changes to the style of play or even the attitude of those who wear the famous light blue shirt. Which brings us on to the players themselves.

A mix of proven SPL performers and young bucks who have been asked to step up to the plate, probably a little early but nonetheless deemed good enough to earn a contract at the club.

Now you can criticise them all you want and deservingly so in some cases, but we all know that is the managers’ responsibility to get the  best out of them and our manager does not appear capable of doing that.

Perhaps it is worth analysing his own decisions at identifying players he felt would be capable of doing a job in the Third Division and on that front again, Ally is failing.

Admittedly the rush to bring in new faces before the lengthy transfer embargo kicked in did not help matters but nevertheless you would have hoped the manager and his scouts would have been been able to spot players you could rely on in giving their all in the rough and tumble of the lowest tier in the Scottish game.

So there are now two weeks before the next episode in the ongoing saga of Rangers FC in the Third Division when Queens Park visit the Brox.

It is more than enough time for Charles Green and Malcolm Murray to sit down and decide if they can trust their manager to pick up his game, before the fans start to turn on him and them as a result.

Maybe Ally McCoist should look in the mirror and ask if he should make that decision himself. Like I said I didn’t want to write this but as the old adage says: no man is bigger than the club.

Should have listened to the Celtic support a year ago!!

    • David McNally says:

never ever listen to the hypocritical conspiracy brainwashed side of glasgow ,that were calling for there own wee brown toothed ginger to get sacked last season before rangers went into administration and gave them there only silverware that season , deluded is the word you could use to describe the celtic support who only love to see rangers in turmoil because thats the only way they can get the better of ,just look at there home games this season MISS US?

      • Big G says:

Im with you Davy even though I dont ever remember wanting Lenny out the door last season but I will take your word for it on that one and it was pretty poor the way he turned a 15 point deficit into a 4 pt lead before the turn of the year and all that followed but anyway.

I also agree that it takes the plight of Sevco to make me happy as my team are only top of the league and flying in Europe – if things improve on this front my attention may be switched away from Sevco.

        • David McNally says:

if you check the facts yous only turned it round when we were struggling to keep a float nothing to do with diving cheating and moaning the usual celtic way but i would be very surprised if u were not calling for that wee ginger fannys head when u were 3 0 to kilmarnock at half time or before the motherwell game at firpark and the only thing he has won hmrc free in 3 years is a scotish cup so go onto your rebel news page and talk pish there about how the once hated parkhead ginger is now your hero after the taxmans help and remember we won 3 titles against a celtic team which just kept buying so do u think the 1 that would have made it 4 was sort of TAINTED when hmrc should have presented the trophy at parkhead so fuck it ,Its history and history you dont want to remember so u can just forget it like u have done with your clubs dark history and finally NOTHING U CAN BRING UP OR SAY THAT COMPARES TO WHAT THE SICK SIDE OF GLASGOWS CLUB DID ,WE KNOW WHAT YOUS DID

        • Big G says:

Davy you are a very sick a deluded individual who appears to be rather angry. I am a happy Celtic fans, one of many loved, respected and welcomed the world over. That alone should tell who is aligned to the better club.

There is no need to swear when trying to make your point – some would say swearing in such circumstances displays a lack of ability to articulate ones self.

And as for talking about tainted titles – seriously? I mean are you really being serious on here talking about tainted titles?? Davy, Davy, Davy, away back to your glass house for a while, lay off thinking about Sevco or the old dead Rangers, try and get some exercise and start looking for the good in people and then you might start feeling better about yourself. I do care for you Davy and I would like to see you in a happy place.

  • Stuart says:

i’m sorry but what will a change in manager actualy going to achieve, as far as i remember we effectivly have a 18 month transer ban so what is a change in manager going to do, what i do think is its time for ally to pick up the phone and call Walter and ask for a hand, Walter offered it when needed so why not … i think this is article isnt worth the webpage it is writen on and you clearly arent a true rangers man if you ask me.

  • paul says:

You are stuck with Sally as long as Chuck has a share issue to sell and you are giving away the £0.00 tickets to every home game…

  • james says:

as jimmy johnston said –‘fitbas an easy game – ye can either dae it or ye cannae ‘ — if the players cannae dae it they should take up joinery or some other job like their stirling counterparts — the next away game if within the first 15 mins a player is not pulling his weight he should be subbed and dropped immediately regardless of his age or experience

  • Patrick says:

    Thought you peepul were Loyal!

Sevco—the gift that keeps on giving!

    • John says:

Ha your right Patrick the all talk about loyalty they just dont know how to be loyal. Our support has more glory supporters than Man U.

  • Fonald Dindlay says:

super Sally ate the pies SEVCO are atrocious!

  • Jmanbay says:

Keep him forever! The 25 year contact better no just be another lie from wee Chico!

  • jimbo says:

I have supported Rangers for over 50 years and I am embarrassed at the past few performances- Rangers need players who are willing to battle in games and strikers like Kevin Kyle- why he was not put on earlier on Saturday is a mystery to me- Ally must take responsabilty for that. I cannot see Rangers getting out of the 3rd division following these past results- every team will raise their game against them!

    • David McNally says:

think yourself lucky your watching rangers at all and if it wasn’t for ally you would be watching nothing and even if we finish 5th in 3rd division i will still follow on because im a rangers fan unlike you

  • David McNally says:

I can’t believe people are slating ally and calling for his head does anybody actually remember that we wouldn’t even exist if it was not for ally and the hard work he has done to get us into division 3. People realy need a slap and when it comes down to it, think yourself lucky we were watching the rangers regardless of the result because if it was not for ally it could have been a whole lot worse than loosing to stirling in the 3rd division ,it could have been our last game ever against motherwell last season at home and that scared me a whole lot worse than a 1 0 defeat to stirling. Obviously i want the team to win everytime but thats football ,david v goliath and so on.When rangers do get promoted do you think anyone will remember that we never adapted to life on the road so quick or just the main point that we went down and came back with a rangers legend in charge ,so for those calling for his head yous should be ashamed,No one needs to tell ally how bad a result that is , just dont walk away

    • John says:

Like you David I am pig sick of these so called Rangers supports! They were obviuosly not around in the late 70s early 80s when we couldn’t beat a drum and where getting less than 5000 people in the ground. Let’s face it you and I know we have some of the worst so called supporters in football. It’s all about them
And them basking in the glory of the club. They make me sick.

      • Patrick says:

        At last an honest opinion.

These people basked in the glory that Murray’s—or rather the bank’s—millions bought for them. They glorified in titles won while cheating and now they can only whinge when asked to take their medicine.

As my late grandma used to say about them “hell mend them”.

        • whocares says:

patrick nothing has been proved yet now jog along and support that team of yours that tried to cover up child abuse thats a lot worse than any tax case you muppet

        • David McNally says:

what are you even doing on a rangers news page anyway ,circling like a shit hawk waiting on mcoist getting sacked so u can rub it in.With a name like patrick you sound like the usual confused barrowland celtic fan that class there self irish and wave republican flags , See unlike our proud club we do not encourage religious bigotry by bringing out a protestant rangers top , that white tops a disgrace and was only brought out to antagonise the rangers support .So why should they be allowed to sport a religious top so soon after they re own carry on with bigotry last season,1 rule for us and 1 rule for the scum

    • jimbo says:

David McNally, I have supported rangers through all the bad times and will continue to support them- I was annoyed that some players are not trying hard enough and putting in enough effort- Aly deserves more effort – in my opinion Kevin Kyle should have been on from the start- I am a great admirer of Ally and agree that he has stuck with it through the hard times- I will be there to support them every week as usual.

  • Dilly Bodds says:

A friend told me today that he is really sad at the Ranger’s predicament—–sad that so many who are no longer with us didn’t live to see this day

    • Geo says:

And the public wonder why people like you , still exist and are allowed to have an opinion !

  • Ian Rae says:

Reply to Fonald Dindlay (10:53 am)
“super Sally ate the pies SEVCO are atrocious!”
That will never sound as good as …
“Super Caley went ballistic Celtic were atrocious”
I agree that Walter coming back in an advisory role might just be the answer.

  • Geo says:

I challenge any manager to lose 28 players that belonged to a succesful side ,within 5-6 months of taking over said team , having no real hard cash to sign players when that was so obviously needed ,while knowing a 12 month transfer embargo was hanging over him ,should he get any signings wrong .The questionable hysteria amongst people who have no love of Rangers and in fact wish to see as much disarray in our beloved club as possible , will see them writing endless articles , in order to have our manager questioned , put under pressure or sacked.
If any of you thought the Sporting Integrity that ruled last season would last amongst certain quarters of Scottish Football ,,, please let me remind you ,,, It NEVER existed . It was introduced by Liewell and his SFA cohorts and dispensed with just as quickly , they are still looking for ways to kill our club .
It is way too early to judge Ally McCoist on his tenure considering the players he has , anyone who does is NOT a Rangers fan .
I am obviously a Rangers fan and consider it being an honour and a duty to follow my club , I am however not blinded by loyalty ,I have supported Rangers through the dark times and asked serious questions of management etc but only Rangers fans have that privilege and most definitley not the scum who are qeueing up to stir the proverbial cack they are continually serving up !

  • Geo says:

Is this another disguised celtc fans of no sporting integrity site , why has it taken sooooo long to moderate my comment ?

  • Geo says:

    Just googled you , hahahaha

  • Flemmo says:

Some of our supporters need to separate what Ally did for us over the summer from what he does for us in the dugout. He’s been brilliant at galvanising the fans and making sure our enemies don’t run their mouths in the media, but he wasn’t good enough as a coach last season and he’s not improved in a league that should be 3 times easier to win!

The massive lead we had last season was only down to Them dropping points, and the way we subsequently collapsed against teams like St Mirren and St Johnstone was inexcusable. The day Dundee United put us out the cup was the lowest day of my life. I knew then Ally had to go, but all the pantomime of Craig Whyte happened after that and it was all forgotten.

I don’t see us getting out of this mess until the club is sold again.

  • dynafc67 says:

away and dont talk pish…i defy any managernot to struggle after losing so many players.HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.YA FECKIN EEJIT ITS THE BOTTOM OF THE FOOTBALL BARREL SEVCO ARE PLAYING EVERY WEEK.MCCOIST IS A BALLOON,HES NOT GOT A CLUE.AND WHY DO YOUS KNUCKLE DRAGGERS INSIST ON CALLING THAT BRAND NEW TEAM YOUS SUPPORT rangers.THEY ARE NOT rangers THEY ARE A TRIBUTE ACT.rangers ARE VERY DEAD….ZOMBIE FC.NOW TAKE YOUR MEDICINE AND SHUT UP.ps GIVE FAT SALLY A 50 YEAR CONTRACT SO I CAN LAUGH UNTIL I DIE

    • David McNally says:

newco stands for new company which means that rfc plc no longer exist but what you would be saying is newclub rangers which it is not , they are still 54 league title winners ,they are uefa cup winners cup champions 1972 and still play in front off a PACKED ibrox crowd and still wear blue ,so if yous manky mob feel better about your tainted past by trying to tarnish ours then feel free yous uneducated illiterate jelous money grabbing snakes and all that carry on about zombies which just proves my point about yous being uneducated.A zombie is the undead so you think we dont exist but call us the undead how stupid are yous and 1 last thing oldco or newco ,We are and always will be regardless of the 3rd or champions league ,the best supported club in scotland so fuck off home and watch septic on tv like the rest of your fans CAN YOU HERE THE PARKHEAD SING NO NO

  • Braidy says:

listen to yourselves? Ally has been through more than any manager I can ever remember in my time as a fan

point the fingers at the players! apart from wallace, mcculloch and alexander, none of these guys know what its like to play for rangers, alot of them have never played at this level and lets not forget we have a completely new team that needs to gel, it happens to everyone (look at QPR) when you replace an entire first team with new guys

we need to drop our SPL standards for a brief moment and realise we’re a third division team, its not our god given right to demolish teams, we have to work hard to become a good enough unit, that can start playing the way they should

and i guarantee you this WILL happen, people stop being silly, as soon as this team settles they’ll and the novelty wears off for other teams, rangers will start demolishing clubs

at least 1o points clear by christmas, i’d wager money on it! give ally time, we’re only 1pt behind 1st place for fuck sake lol

  • Patrick says:

Why is this ignorant semi-literate bigot McNally allowed to spout so much nonsense?

The Celtic Cross displayed on the new Celtic shirt would appear remarkably similar to that worn on the Northern Ireland shirt. Even the uneducated No Surrender monkeys who spout their sectarian bile at Windsor Park have not as yet to my knowledge complained.

Is McNally a new breed of super bigot?

  • Dilly Bodds says:

I wonder if McNally who is so fiercely Protestant (note the capital P knuckledraggers) has ever seen the inside of a church of any description!

  • Patrick says:

Surprised to see nothing from super bigot McNally.

Has he finally realised how stupid he appears? The site is certainly less hate filled without him.
