Why Sir Alex Ferguson may be the right man to tame Man City’s most tenacious talent:

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has a reputation for being able to manage even the most tenacious talent. Over the years, every type of preening prima donna, overpaid wastrel and arrogant/obnoxious talent has made their way through the ranks at Old Trafford. And in almost every case, Sir Alex has been able to tame the negative aspects of their personality and help rear a more professional player.

So perhaps it’s not that crazy to see Emirates 24/7 link Manchester United to Manchester City’s Italian madman, Mario Balotelli. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a pretty bonkers link, but at least Fergie has some experience in this area? But would the Scot be willing to take on a challenge of this magnitude?

Moreover, would Roberto Mancini be willing to let a player who is clearly talented, join his side’s biggest rivals (arguably). Whilst the Italian coach has spoken out against the youngster in the past, he has always been willing to eat humble pie and give him an opportunity.

The reason why? Mario is supremely talented. He’s a natural finisher, who’s as powerful at a young age as Didier Drogba, with as much composure as the likes of Michael Owen and plenty of technical ability to boot.

At just 22-years-old, he’s already proven himself at every stage of the game. I don’t claim that he’s the complete package, but he could go on to be an absolutely fantastic player. I’m sure his two goals against Italy in the semi-finals of the 2012 Euros will live on for a long time in the memory of football fans.

If United were to persuade City to sell, they’d have to make a substantial bid for his services. After all, it’s not like City are in particular need of a cash injection. Despite Balotelli’s antics, the club are still in a position of power. They do not need to sell the Italian and probably wouldn’t be keen to let him join their rivals (unless they view him as a Trojan horse).

So, yes, this is an extremely unlikely transfer. But if anybody could set Balotelli on the right path, it must surely be Sir Alex Ferguson. It could well be his biggest challenge, but don’t we love to watch the great man rise to the occasion?

What’s your take? As unlikely as it may be, would Mario Balotelli benefit from Sir Alex’s watchful eye?
