Why Arsenal need to activate this Spanish ace’s release clause:

Whilst Arsenal have started the season strongly, they’re not showing the same imperious form that the likes of Chelsea are. Whilst the Blues are steam-rolling any opponent in their path (including the Gunners, thanks to two free-kicks that defenders failed to deal with) Arsenal have often struggled to break down opponent’s this season (0-0 draws with Stoke City and Sunderland being a good case in point).

Whilst they’re generally more solid at the back this season and well stocked in the centre of the park, there’s less clarity going forward.

Olivier Giroud hasn’t impressed as much as was hoped and Gervinho, despite grabbing goals, has shown all the consistency of a cheap apple crumble (not my first choice of metaphor). Gervinho’s team-mates seem to have absolutely no idea what he’s going to do next and this has counted against Arsenal when they have attempted to put moves together.

As such, it’s little wonder that Arsenal are being linked to a good number of strikers. According to Goal.com, the Gunners have made Atletico Madrid striker Adrian Lopez their number one January transfer target.

Apparently the Spanish ace has a £14.6m release clause written into his contract. Given his ability and the way he’s developed over the last couple of seasons, I’d say that price would represent something of a bargain. It may well even bait Arsene Wenger into making attempting to snatch him up.

Goal.com call him ‘the new David Villa’, but the 24-year-old has some way to go before he hits those heights. He’s versatile (can play on the left, right and down the centre). He’s also something of a natural goal-scorer, grabbing 18 goals last season and helping Atletico on the way to Europa League victory.

The player himself looks to be ready for a new challenge. Like Theo Walcott, he’s fallen down the pecking order because of an unwillingness to put pen to paper. Despite being an important member of the first team, Adrian has started just two (out of a possible 8) games this season. His mind is obviously elsewhere.

For the price that he’s available, it’s obviously something of a no brainer. He’s talented and he’ll score goals. He also represents an entirely different kind of player from Olivier Giroud, so will give the Gunners more depth going forward. Let’s hope that Wenger manages to strike a bargain deal to bring yet another Spaniard to the Emirates.

What’s your take? Would Adrian Lopez help provide Arsenal with more cut and thrust?

refer to our last game against Norwich, it’s clearly we need new striker. Some pundit says, Giroud not compatible with Arsenal system. Just bring us the new striker wenger

Before the Norwich game Wenger said his md was excellent.Well what happened was unexpected.I thought the md was a deciding factor in winning games..
Somehow the gunners are stifled when defences are deep. The problem is in the face of massed defenders they try to pass their way thru. It hasnt worked bf,and still the same tactics are used.
No wonder anti soccer helps teams to win games. They will let the gunners have 99% possession. The gunners can;st score. Out of the blue the opposing teams scores a breakaway/runaway goal.
Wenger won’t play in such a style. If the gunners continue to struggle and finish outside the top four,he may finally realise he has taken the gunners as far as he can which aint good enough for a club of Arsenal’s stature.

At the moment I will take any striker at Arsenal who can shoot the ball, even from outside the box. Sometimes the passing just makes you sick, and you just cry out for some one to shoot, just like Norwich did when they scored their goal. Cazorla did that against West Ham, Giroud tried and audacious one against Stoke. Why cant they just shoot like that more often???
