This £17m man would make a great signing for Arsenal – but at what cost?

Watching Arsenal struggle (and fail) to overcome Norwich City at the weekend, I was struck by how much the Gunners could have used Theo Walcott. Walcott, of course, received a pole-axing from the San Marino during an International game which ruled him out of Saturday’s fixture. Instead, Alex Oxlaide Chamberlain came onto the pitch and within a matter of seconds, knocked it past a City defender, accelerated behind him, almost breaking through, before a last ditch tackle knocked the ball away from him.

By using pace, the Gunners managed to briefly unlock a defence that had looked up until then, impenetrable. Unfortunately, the Ox soon went off injured and Theo Walcott wasn’t available. Arsenal lost the game to a single Norwich goal.

Suffice to say, I feel a little saddened when I see so many sources linking Theo Walcott with a move away from the Emirates. I understand that his contract situation with Arsenal has made it extremely unlikely that he’ll stay. I do feel, however, that he has plenty to offer the Gunners.

Despite this, CalcioMercato claim that Theo Walcott will be allowed to leave the club, as the Gunners attempt to seal a deal for yet another Malaga ace, Isco.

Let’s focus first on Isco, a young Spaniard, who has earned himself a pretty big reputation. According to the source, the 20-year-old has a £17m release clause (Which would be enough to break Arsenal’s transfer record) but, if he’s anything like as good as former Malaga star Santi Cazorla, he’d be a bargain.

If you’ve kept track of Spanish football, particularly this season, you’ll know just what a talent this young lad is. He’s a direct, pacey runner, with great vision, neat passing ability and an eye for goal. Indeed, he’s already nabbed four goals this season and looks to be going from strength to strength. Whilst Arsenal aren’t exactly short in the centre of the park, Isco could provide the additional spark of inspiration that the club needs.

I just hope his signing (should it go ahead) doesn’t come at the expense of Theo Walcott. Having both players on the books would make the Gunners an altogether more pacey, threatening presence. Whilst Cazorla and Arteta can move the ball quickly. They’re not as adept when it comes to running with it. Arsenal need players like Walcott and Isco. Let’s hope that having them play together is not an impossibility.

What’s your take? Is Walcott an expendable? Would Isco be a smart addition at the Emirates?

    yes
    Isco
is a perfect signing for arsenal
he has all traits to be an arsenal player
    n
    more over
    he’s quite tall

while most ball playing players at arsenal are short

    Isco is 6feet approximately…

    quick pacy
with good passing n good at creating
    as well as scoring

    he’s versatile

    but I don’t believe he’ll leave in winter market…

The problem is Wenger . His one dimensional style is a recipe for a defeat. No Plan B.
I tell you what. With him in charge the gunners will never win another epl title.
I hope I am wrong but the the 10 point gap tells its own story.

sorry to say, if arsenal sells Theo Walcott she will not qualified for the next champion league competition come 2013-14. even at the expense of the purchase of isco. walcott role is vital to arsenal for now and his replacement is far from coming. go and bring Zaha, Isco or Torres arsenal will pay bitterly for selling him if she eventually do.

A defeat like dis tells u dat we need a striker.we must sign a striker come january. Coquelin was great 2nite. Theo or isco, isco 4 life

  • DocBrody says:

Isco is extraordinary. I’d love us to buy him AND keep Walcott. Try Walcott as a speed striker with Cazorla, Isco, Podolski, Arteta to feed him through. If it works, sign Walcott up with all the assurances he needs about playing as a striker. If it doesn’t work, sell him for what few sheckles we can get in January.

  • DocBrody says:

well, i guess you cant very well try isco and Walcott in the field together if you sell one the same month you buy the other, but still i’d try walcott as a striker. what do we have to lose at this point

  • Roland C Rozario says:

The games against Norwich and now Schalke EXPOSED Arsenal as a team disjointed and with no level or consistency, urgency and ######
It was just disgusting watching the ‘supposedly professionals play’
Wenger should the chance for players like Eisfled, Gnabry, Ryo [get him back], Frimpong and the other good guys in the reserves!!
There is nothing else to lose….Arsenal have already lost decisive games look where they are now in the EPL and CL!!

My question is wenger really ready to do the business? We need a player in the wide areas, but who is coming? What is chamake, squallica, arshavim, dijorou still doing at arsenal football club, use the wages of the listed players above and build a strong team.

  • Arsenal wenger is a problem to Arsenal future. Why, beccous he will sell a player and never hope for replacement. So, once there is an injury you will see that the will now strugle to win. Anyway signing Isco will be a perfect signing. But not for Walcot replacement. Adrin Lopez is the perfect replacement for Theo Walcot.
