They failed last summer, but Arsenal should re-ignite their interest in this forward in January:

Whilst Olivier Giroud opened his Premier League goal-scoring account against the Hammers, the jury is still out as to whether the Frenchman has what it takes to make it at this level.

It took him nine games to break his Premier League duck (he also scored against Coventry City, but that was in the Capital One Cup, so nobody seems to be paying that much heed) and as many fans will tell you, that’s the same number as games as it took a certain Thierry Henry.

But the two players could not be more unlike each other. Thierry was all about pace, grace and intelligence. Olivier Giroud is a powerful, physical player, who’s supposedly a great finisher. The trouble is, since he got to England, he looks completely incapable in front of goal.

This is not an area where the Gunners are particularly flush. Arsene Wenger has even started playing the world’s most erratic forward down the middle – Gervinho. Whilst he’s grabbed some goals, he seems to be on a completely different wavelength to the rest of the team. He does the unexpected in just about every situation and that’s not always to Arsenal’s benefit.

Then there’s Theo Walcott, whose future is uncertain and as such, isn’t being given any opportunities to prove his worth upfront. I think it’s fair to say, that this is an area where the Gunners could use some reinforcements.

According to Goal.com, Arsene Wenger tried to snatch Edin Dzeko off of City last summer. How much truth there is to these claims, I’m not so sure. But I do think that Edin Dzeko would make for a smart addition at the Emirates and I hope Arsenal re-ignite their interest in the January transfer window.

We all know what Dzeko’s capable of. I don’t think he’s been given as many opportunities to prove himself as he deserves at City. He’s a natural finisher and has now proved himself in the Premier League. We’ve seen him display the confidence in-front of goal in the Premier League that Olivier Giroud just can’t seem to muster.

I’m sure the Bosnian would jump for a chance to play regular football in front of the likes of Mikel Arteta and Santi Cazorla. He’d be sure to grab plenty of goals.

He’s also the kind of player that you feel City would be willing to let go of, if Arsneal could stand up the right amount of cash.

What’s your take? Would Edin Dzeko be a good addition at the Emirates?

you CAN NOT judge a forward after 10 games. Look at how long it took Dzeko to settle himself. He’s put too much pressure on himself and has admited so. I think you will see a completely different animal come the end of the season. Most forwards take time to settle….

This is a stupid article! It also took a long time for dzeko to settle @ city in fact giroud has settled faster wit 2goals n 4 assists! Look 4 someone elses back to get on monkey!

I was willing to hear your perspective up until your description of Gervinho made me realise you’re clueless.

Giroud has made about 5 assists and scored 2 Goals he makes good runs, is great at distracting and taking on defenders and has an eye for goal. Most of his shots have either been saved or rather close. You’re really underestimating him. I think that if he got a more constant supply of balls he’d score alot more.

Although your article says that it was his nineth league game , how many minutes did he play because i recall him being on the bench and coming on in`the last 15 mins or so in quite a number of these games. Also it is his first season and some players take a while to climatise to the EPL.

after a few games how can you say that giroud is incapable if anything he has shown that he gets into good positions to score so its only inevitable he will score. Every match hes getting better and will come good just like it took henry 10 games to do so how do you know he might not turn out to be better then dzeko? I think arsenal do lack a fast striker though the successful teams in the past had at least 1 fast good striker like henry anelka wiltord reyes or even overmars wright wasnt too slow either i dont think theo is a striker yet or gervino is a natural striker even though he can play there.

Plz… I’ll take Giroud over dzeko eny day…. Giroud i fink iz a beter finisher, makes very good runs and iz very strong. He can also assist.. So all he needs is for him to settle wich i fink he’s doing very well… Hez going to be a good buy come the end of the season… I dnt mind seeing Dzeko in an arsenal shirt tho.. Hehe

Harry Cloke is a wanker. we will never get Dzeko. stop dreaming and lets just be realistic. Wenger has always been realistic and u keep on writing bollocks. come on now give us something intelligent please.
