Why this £15m rated Spanish ace could be just what Arsenal need come January:

Whilst we all continue to rave about Arsenal’s impressive performances (defensive and offensive) this season, there are a couple of points of concern. The first is that their goalkeepers all look shaky. The second is that Olivier Giroud, Ligue 1 top scorer last season, looks like he’s never seen a goal net before.

Whilst his movement has been lauded (he looks like a leaden ox to me, with all the speed of Emile Heskey on an off day) he’s wasted the few chances he has had. It would be cruel to judge him so early on in his Arsenal career, but I don’t think it’s unreasonable to feel a little nervy about his prospects. I’d love to see him prove me and the other doubters wrong and go on to prove his natural goal-scoring prowess, but I think it’s best to manage expectations – for now.

Meanwhile, Lukas Podolski, top German striker has been deployed out on the wings and Gervinho has been played down the middle to mixed reviews. Then there’s Marouane Chamakh, who I think is destined to do a Park Chu-Young this season. I think it’s fair to say that this could be an area that Arsenal seek to improve this summer.

So who better than Spanish ace Fernando Llorente? According to the Daily Mail, the wantaway Athletic Bilbao striker has delayed signing a new deal with his club and may be sold this January. Arsenal are believed to be among the clubs interested.

It’s also claimed that he’d be available for around £15m, which seems a little cheap, considering there’s bound to be plenty of competition for his signature. Llorente is the real deal. He hasn’t had much of a look in at international level yet, but his 30 goals in 53 games last season have caught the eye.

But he’s known for more than his goal-scoring exploits. He has a real physical presence, can bully defenders and is aerially dominant. I’d argue that he’s the complete package as a striker and would go a long way to filling the Robin Van Persie shaped hole in Arsenal’s side.

It may seem unfair on Olivier Giroud to sign a new striker. But the Frenchman expected to battle it out with RVP for his place in this Arsenal side this season. I’m sure he’d relish some competition from the Spaniard. This is a signing that just seems to make sense for Arsenal – if they can afford to dish out the cash.

What’s your take? Would Llorente be a good addition at Arsenal?

This will not happen for 2 reasons…
1 – Lorente’s wages are not an amount Wenger gives to one player.
2 – WE DONT NEED STRIKER AND STOP BASHING ON GIROUD MOFOS. Henry took 9 games to score for Arsenal, Giroud has played 4 and is not that far from the net

  • phylgunner says:

patience pays, Giroud will soon score

  • lordgunner says:

and once giroud start scoring ,LLorente story who is very similar striker to the frenchman will be all forgoten.
Like all big tall player, giroud need time to adapt to the pace of the PL .this sort of player are slow developper and very often rech their best year near their 30s

  • John Odhiambo says:

Well thought. We need another striker. We wasted so many chances at etihad due to poor finishing.

  • Sriram says:

Loic remy would be a better buy dan llorente..but giroud will start his guns to fire!!

  • ajogi says:

Fernando (not torres) would be a very good buy for the gunners if it could be pulled off.

  • kieran says:

wud prefer a small clinical finisher like hernandez or someone not another big target man
