Well, the transfer window has slammed shut and Premier League sides are now unable to make further additions to their squad until January. Hopefully this’ll put to end all the debate about the way the transfer window works and allow fans to focus again on what really matters: the football itself. But, before we move on entirely, I hope you’ll allow me a final bit of indulgence.

One of the strangest transfer rumours to arise over the summer, was Marca’s claim that Cesc Fabregas could make a shock return to his old club. What a perfect fit you may say – Arsenal have failed to score in their opening games and need a creative player to provide a spark. Fabregas is one of the best passers of the ball in the game. If he can’t unlock a defence, very few people can.

The Spanish source claims that the 25-year-old is frustrated at a failure to install himself in new Barcelona boss Tito Vilanova’s first team plans. Marca, a notoriously anti-Barca paper seem to be focusing on the fact that Fabregas was left out of both legs of the Spanish Super Cup Final, rather than the fact that the midfielder has started both of Barca’s La Liga fixtures this season. That’s hardly enough evidence to suggest that Fabregas may be getting restless.

The most unbelievable aspect of the story is that it goes against everything we’ve come to know about Cesc. Barcelona is his home club. It’s the club he loved since he was a kid. He’s a fighter. You get the feeling that if he was snubbed for a couple of games, his preference would be to stay and compete for his place rather than flee the coup. There’s a little more to him than that.

As an Arsenal fan, however, it’s hard not to feel a bit wistful. Fabregas leaving the club two summers ago has slowly but surely led to Arsenal’s best players following suite. Nasri, Song, Robin Van Persie. All gone. And yet you get the feeling that Cesc was the best of the bunch – the one truly capable of pulling the strings and controlling a game. He’s been sorely missed.

So yes, I put little stock in the rumours concerning Fabregas’ dissatisfaction. But should he ever fancy a return to the Emirates, I hope the Gunners jump at the chance. He left the club with his class in tact (unlike say, RVP) and still speaks of his love for the club. How the Gunners could use him now.

What’s your take? Could Cesc Fabregas ever return to the Emirates?

Wouldn’t be surprised if it did. Same with Carlos Vela. That’s why I was so pleased to hear that we added a buy-back clause (for Vela)

Barcelona fans have not been haappy with cesc of late. There has been moaning an grumbling in the stands. There may be more to this story than you think.

  • Ian says:

I would take him back – he left for valid reasons and conducted himself properly. We miss his creativity.

  • Matt says:

Get over it already. Fab is not part of Arsenal and has moved on. We have what we have now and should firmly get behind them now. This is a sign of heart break. He will never come back to Arsenal there are too many other clubs out there who demonstrate ambition. So far the story has not changed yet. We have to get behind the team that we have and write a new history.

  • potter says:

He always said that he wanted to play for Guardiola ,and as he has now gone the draw is less. With Wenger’s contract ending in 2014 a conspirict theory is on the horizon.

  • Howard says:

Having Cesc back would be Fab (sorry). My only complaint about him leaving was the 3 plus years we had to endure the rumors, speculation, Barc machinations, etc. My god it was tedious and irritating; he didn’t exactly put much effort into making Gooners confident of his loyalties and intentions.

  • kudzai says:

dont see this happening at all considering xavi is about to retire soon. Its far fetched honestly. If AFC is to consider re signing a player it should be Song that if Wenger,Kronke et al know whats good for them.

  • goonsquad says:

cesc is a legend , definetly worth him coming back , highly doubt it though

  • abel says:

I have a feeling that if he wins the league and champions league it will be realistic for him to come back

  • ne says:

If it is true, then im more then willing to go and pick him up..just give me a call ;P…

  • dadagbon says:

Arsenal FC have real stars coming through. Sooner than later Fabregas and even Song will be jaded with our next generation of creative footballers. Fabregas/song are not the best in the world, they can smell-off.

    • Malex says:

Arsenal is not a TOILET that you can simply walk in and out as you wish. It is a reputable club managed in the most professional way ever and has been in existence long before Cesc, Rvp, Nasri or Song.
Only Fools would entertain the idea of eating your own VOMIT cause it smells good. He rejected AFC for Barca, he should be allowed to take responsibility of his actions by NOT coming back to AFC.
We are proud to be AFC fans thru thick and thin and LOYALTY is very important for any relationship to exist.

  • Wolfaugen says:

We have taken Cesc from Barca once they didn’t wan’t, he’s way of saying thanks for that, was to run bacj at first chance, why making that mistake with him again?

  • Musa says:

Henry and Campbell did their second acts for Arsenal .The objective is what matters the most Cesc is 25 Barcelona will evolve in years to come they may win cups or they may not either way players crave new challenges and Arsenal have first refusal if Barca and Cesc decide to part ways. So its really a case of Arsenal deciding whether or not he should return.

  • shola says:

Yes if fabregas return, am not suprice, because there is buy back cluse in the contact that took him to barcelona, so is possible.
