Is this Spanish prodigy just the creative burst that Manchester United need?

Given the Spanish dominance in the International field, it’s unsurprising that Premier League teams are increasingly turning to Spaniard’s in order to fuel their desire for success. Arsenal, for instance, are a great example of this. They bought Mikel Arteta last summer and added Santi Cazorla (a fantastic talent) this year and they’ve profited from their interplay, natural ability and near limitless range of passing. Chelsea too have a growing Spanish contingent amongst their ranks.

It’s surprising, therefore, that Manchester United have failed to jump on board this ship. I’m sure it’s not a conscious decision on Sir Alex Ferguson’s part. There just hasn’t been a player available at a fair price to tempt the Scot. Until now.

According to Emirates 24/7, Sir Alex has turned his attentions to Malaga’s Spanish dynamo, Isco (short for Francisco Roman Alarcon Suarez). The 20-year-old prodigy was key to the La Liga side’s dismantling of Zenit St. Petersburg on Tuesday (yep, that’s the same side that spent big on Hulk and Witsel). It was an absolutely dazzling performance, bristling with class.

He’s renowned for his passing ability at such a young age, in combination with his expert reading of the game. He’s got the ability to work space for him and use the time this affords him to meet a sensible end. He always seems to know where his team-mates are and he can carve out the right ball to find him.

Whilst generally admired, Michael Carrick and Darren Fletcher (welcome back!) are sometimes criticized for a lack of creativity. These are players who are fantastic at what they do, but I don’t think Sir Alex expects them to harness the creative burden of this Manchester United side. It could well be that Isco is being lined up as the player that will ease this burden once Paul Scholes leaves.

This may disappoint fans, who are used to being linked to the likes of Wesley Sneijder and Luka Modric. Yet, I think this would be an extremely smart purchase for Manchester United. It’s clear that the Red Devils have a need and that Isco has the ability to do the job. What’s more, he’s one of European football’s premier young talents. The kind of player that Fergie loves to court. It just seems to make sense.

What’s your take? Would Isco be a smart addition for Manchester United?
