Arsenal’s chances next season still seem to hinge on Robin Van Persie’s decision whether or not to stay at the club. He has made it clear that he’s ready to move on, but whether the club lets him or not is another matter. Many have speculated that he’s had a u-turn and wants to stay at the club, but the lack of action surrounding him may just be a result of a lack of interest.

Not everybody’s willing to bet on a 29-year-old with a history of injuries.

Still, it’s only sensible that Arsene Wenger continues to look at strikers, so that he’s ready to snap one up once his talismanic Dutchman decides to fly the coop. So who could he turn to?

The Daily Mail claim that the Gunners are considering making a bid for Olympiakos striker Kevin Mirallas, top scorer of the Greek League last season. In two seasons at the club, he has scored 34 goals in 52 games. That’s an extremely healthy return and it’s little wonder that clubs around Europe have sat up and taken notice.

Whether or not the Gunners are genuinely interested remains to be seen. But would he improve the team? The Mail claim that the 24-year-old has a £6.4m price-tag. That’s an Arsene Wenger friendly transfer fee if I’ve ever seen one. Wenger’s notoriously frugal when it comes to spending on transfers (though he seems to have loosened the purse strings this summer) and Mirallas certainly wouldn’t break the bank.

Mirallas himself is a versatile forward who can play on either wing or up front (much like Lukas Podolski). Whilst his adaptability may well attract Arsene Wenger, he’s best known for playing upfront and he’s had some success in this position during recent years.

Whilst Podolski and Olivier Giroud may be able to hold the fort in RVP’s absence, the likes of Marouane Chamakh, Park Chu-Young and Nicklas Bendtner do little to inspire much belief. As one, two or three of these players may be on their way out at the Emirates this summer, I can’t help but feel that Mirallas would make for a good replacement.

He wouldn’t necessarily expect to break into the first team, but he does have the ability to do so in the future. At 24-years-old, he’s just about to enter the peak stages of his career, so now would be the right time to make a move for him!

What’s your take? Would ‘Kev’ be a good addition at the Emirates?

The recruitment concentrated just on strikers is abit too much. Arsenal need some prolific and experience in the CM/DM arena to stablise that area!

Kevin Miralles is a top quality player. He is 24 years old and reaching his peak and has a good six more top level years left. We would be mad not to sign him. He will become as good as RVP.

34 in 52 games in Greek league is not a convincing figure perhaps for couch fans who know how to talk with nothing to loss or be at risk.

I think arsene winger is making a mistake here,we are only concentrating on strikers,we still world class DM/DEFENDERS.the lanky man from germany is not that reliable.and i dnt know why we cannot get YANN M’VILLA,We going to need him,one of those defenders can be injured Alex can as well play from defense while m’villa will replace him at the midfield.
