Can this £9m dynamo seriously improve this Arsenal side?

Arsene Wenger has spent the entire summer screwing up his own rule-book, chucking out his philosophy and diving into the transfer market. Best of all, he’s not returned with a ‘talented youngster’, he’s brought back renowned, experienced, international footballers who have the quality to make an immediate mark upon this side. Welcome to the Emirates Lukas Podolski, Olivier Giroud and Santi Cazorla.

Whilst this terrible trio are likely to have a massive impact on the clubs fortunes over the next year, you can’t help but wonder if Wenger’s work is done. There’s a lot of talk about the club needing a defender, be it a centre-back or a full-back. Naturally, however, the club has found itself linked to yet another midfielder.

I won’t rattle off the list of Arsenal’s midfield personnel. Suffice to say it’s absolutely rammed at the moment, and even talented upstarts like Aaron Ramsey are likely to struggle for playing time. So if they’re to bring in yet another midfielder, they’d better be a player capable of improving the first team.

According to the Daily Mail, the club’s scouting network has been keeping a watch on ‘the South Korean Steven Gerrard’, or as his friends call him, Ki Sung-yeung. It’s easy to see how he’s picked up this moniker. He’s energetic, dynamic and can spray the ball about with ease. He’s had a fantastic time at the 2012 Olympic Games where he’s more or less acted as South Korea’s engine room. He even scored the deciding spot-kick against Team GB in the semis.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he had caught Arsene Wenger’s eye. But should he goes as far as to make a bid for him?

The Mail claim that he’d cost the club around £9m. Whilst that’s not too much for such an influential player, I’d have to question whether it’d be money well spent for the club. Rumours of a loan move for Nuri Sahin (source: The Guardian) captured fan’s imaginations because it’s clear that he’s a player who can hold down a first-team place.

Ki’s got real presence, but is he ready to hold off the likes of Jack Wilshere, Mikel Arteta and Alex Song in a top four Premier League side? I’m not so sure. Last time Arsene Wenger gambled on a Korean in the transfer market, he ended up seriously derailing his career. So maybe this time he should steer clear.

What’s your take? Could Ki Sung-yeung improve this Arsenal side?

And what is Wenger going to do with a midfield of diaby, wilshere, coquelin, arteta, rosicky, carzola, arshavin, Walcott, AOC.
    This article doesn’t make sense.

  • gunners357 says:

rosicky is getting old we all know this and we don’t have a player similar to him he is at a good level already I’m tired of up and coming and hoping it needs to change to knowing and for 9mill thats great i dont know if any one watch the olympics but i did he played very good better than frimpong and francis that was the closest thing to premier league we was gonna get b4 the kick off of the new season.

  • gunners357 says:

arsharvin is going vela gone theres space for him sahin might come but its only loan ryo probably gonna go on loan frimpong is injured rosicky is injured wilshere injured diaby injury prone ramsey looked full of confidence in the olympics but will only let us down again. why would anyone care if we had enough players so were never ever short always complete is that not a good thing

  • Olayemi says:

Ki is a gud player, but is he a player that can win trophy 4 a club in premierleague?……absolutely NO

  • Chris J says:

Didn’t spain play 6 Midfielders and no recognised Stiker at the Euros? Don’t Barca play a packed midfield with taltented one-touch players? Why are people worried about having too many? Maybe Arsene’s looking at a style of play similar to these?

  • ne says:

hurm spot on…why do we need to sign these guy if we would not giving him a chance like ji-sung.

  • Faris says:

Arsenal the most broblame isdefinder arsenal siging todefinder

  • eky says:

this guy is really good. i prefer him instead of nuri sahin. we don’t need another injury prone midfielder. because we already have so many injury prone midfielder like diaby, rosicky, wilshere, and frimpong. sahin only played 4 games for real madrid last season because of injury.
