Would Cavani be a help or hindrance for Torres and Chelsea?

|

Chelsea look to be heading in the right direction after an under par season in the EPL, but has their spending come to an end?. Reports (Evening standard) say that the Blues have agreed a bid for Napoli striker Edison Cavani for £35 million on £150,000 weekly wages but the deal is yet to be fully completed. I’m sure Chelsea fans eyes will be lighting up at the players bought in during the summer transfer market. They’ve made smart (expensive) additions that may well put them back in contention. But one Chelsea striker who may start to worry once again is Fernando Torres.

He looked like the apprentice to Drogba for much of last season so when the big man left for China, I’m sure he felt like the main striker to carry Chelsea through the season. But, if Cavani was to join, Chelsea must make sure they keep Torres as the main striker in order to keep his confidence up. Fernando is one of world football’s best strikers, but he’s very much a confidence player. If you doesn’t feel like he has the backing of the manager or the fans, he’s likely to struggle. And surely Chelsea want to avoid a repeat of last season?

I think that Cavani is a wonderful player, but the only doubt I have, is whether they will be able to link up and both score goals yet still keep Torres a happy, confident man? We will just have to wait for the new season. I write this article hours before the “El Cashico” match between Chelsea and Manchester City, so Torres could have scored a hat-trick to kick start his season or perhaps replicated his form from last season.

Torres is one of the favourites to win the golden boot this upcoming season with odds of 9/1 and Cavani could either be a help or hindrance in his bid to show people he’s worth his price tag. We saw glimpses of magic from the Spaniard last season, which he can hopefully follow on into 2012/13. Lots of question always seem to erupt before the season begins but we just want the action to start and the goals to fly in. But can they really top the standard of the EPL last season?

Whats your take? Would Cavani be a help for Torres?
