Whether or not Arsenal sign another striker likely depends on the future of their talismanic forward Robin Van Persie. After issuing a statement noting that he wouldn’t be signing new terms with the Gunners, the Dutchman has since played it cool in regards to his future. Whether he’ll stay or go is anybody’s guess. Heck, by the time that this article is published, he could already have left the club.

With his future still up in the air, most papers have continued to link the Gunners to younger forwards. That’s not all that surprising considering Arsene Wenger has already brought in FC Koln’s Lukas Podolski and Montpellier’s Olivier Giroud. Two fantastic goal-scorers, both Internationals and both likely to be competing for a starting role. Anybody Arsenal signs will have to contend with the fact that they may well spend a fair amount of time on the bench.

Still, if Arsenal are to sign a young striker, they have to have a considerable amount of talent. After all, there’s already a fair amount of young talent at the club in this department, you just have to look at the likes of Benik Afobe (who recently grabbed a hat-trick on loan with Bolton) and Chuks Aneke to see that.

Which brings me to this A Bola article which claims that Arsenal have entered the race for Benfica’s talented teen Rodrigo Moreno. ‘Who?’ you may ask. He’s a Brazilian born Spanish Under-21 International (what a great mix of footballing heritage). The 21-year-old had a fantastic season last year grabbing 15 goals in all competitions and impressing with his free-flowing, dynamic performances.

Some fans may remember Rodrigo’s previous spell in the Premier League when he was on loan with Bolton. Of course, he failed to cover himself in glory during his first shot. He grabbed just 1 goal in 20 appearances at the Reebok and left fans wondering why he came.

Still he may represent an attractive prospect for Arsene Wenger, who will surely value his versatility (he can play upfront or on either wing) and the fact that he developed massively as a player last season. If he continues on this trajectory, he could end up being the real deal.

As things stand, I’d argue that he’d be a better third or fourth choice striker than the likes of Marouane Chamakh and Park Chu-Young. This, added to the fact that he’s a genuine prospect, convinces me that he’s the kind of target that Arsenal should be chasing.

What’s your take: would Rodrigo Moreno be a good addition at the Emirates?

Its true that from what I saw today, RVP is already on his way. He could have come on at the start of second half to take the captain’s armband from Vermaelen but he didn’t. He instead came on with about 20 minutes to the end with almost no captain on the pitch and he didn’t have the captain’s armband on.

What does that mean? With premiership starting on Saturday, he has never played a friendly match with the team since May to just have 20 minutes on the pitch as a team leader?

I think he is only waiting for Arsenal team to settle and he moves on.

    That is my observation

Ok sorry but your article was ridiculous and proved you don’t know about our players when you mentioned Chuks Aneke as a striker. He’s a midfield player and nowhere near a striker.

V.p was wearing d captain ban wen he came on. If he did not ask d club 2 show ambition and treating to leave if d club don match he’s vision and support he’s tallent. Arsenal would have never bought dos players. I beleive he’ll stay wit arsenal.
