Whilst the transfer window remains open, speculation will remain rife as to whether the Gunners will make further additions. Arsenal’s lack of goal-scoring form in their opening two games, have led to clamours for new bodies to join the squad. Whilst the Gunner’s have provided a more unified front since Robin Van Persie’s acrimonious exit, they’ve been a little toothless going forward.

It’s of little wonder, therefore, that so many publications are seeking to link Arsenal to any creative midfielder out there in the ether. The search has driven up surprisingly few names. It’s clear that Arsene Wenger isn’t going to splash the cash it takes to sign a Luka Modric or a Kaka, so the Gunners find themselves linked with lesser known players who’d be available on a premium.

Which brings me to AS’s claims that Arsenal are looking to tie up deals for Malaga’s Isco and Barcelona’s Ibrahim Afellay. Yes, Arsenal are facing a severe lack of creativity at the moment, but these two young stars, in combination with Santi Cazorla, may be the perfect solution.

Isco, otherwise known as Francisco Roman Alarcon is a young Spanish attacking midfielder tipped to have a big future in the International set-up. He’s just 20-years-old but he made 35 appearances in a strong Malaga side last season. He’s known for his pace, confidence on the ball and direct attacking play. I’d liken him somewhat to his compatriot Jesus Navas. You also wonder if Malaga’s financial situation would make them willing to let him go.

Afellay happens to be a little better known thanks to Barca snapping him up and his appearances in the Dutch national team. Whilst he didn’t really impress during the Euros, anybody who has followed his career will attest to his ability and potential. He’s lightening quick, able to trick his way past defenders, work space and conjure moments of magic.

He’s a little older than Isco (26) and may well fancy his chances at a club where he’d get regular game time. He, more so than Isco, would be likely to have a telling immediate impact on the Arsenal squad.

One thing’s for sure – if Arsenal were to sign both players, they’d be injecting a significant amount of creativity in their team. Let’s hope this isn’t just another nonsense transfer rumour and that Arsene Wenger’s able to carry this off.

What’s your take? Would these two La Liga stars make smart additions at the Emirates?

I wouldn’t mind having both Isco and Afellay at Arsenal, because I don’t believe that Diaby will last a whole season and although Wilshere is on the mend we’re not sure if he will actually return in October and Rosicky is still out so we still need players in that position, and as Spurs are also after Afellay I would rather us get his skills than them, but it all depends on Wenger who is saying we have the injured players coming back, forgetting that we have Liverpool on Sunday.

we dont need affelay, all we need is etenne capoue, edib dzeko, yanga mbiwa. If wenga can get these players, then arsenal will be tittle contenders
